For 15 seasons, Supernatural provided some of the funniest, most iconic TV quotes, including Castiel's best line of the series, which even 16 years later has become a series-best. Throughout the run of Supernatural, Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) and his brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) made their way across the US to take down demons and monsters, all while contending with the doom and gloom of the impending apocalypse. With help from others, like angel Castiel (Misha Collins), the brothers went to hell and back over and over, which separated them countless times, but they always found their way back together.
While Dean and Sam spent the entirety of the series roving all over the country, they didn't encounter Castiel until Supernatural season 4. Though the brothers first thought they were dealing with another demon, Castiel's true nature was uncovered quickly upon his arrival on Supernatural, and he became a huge part of the show. Throughout Castiel's first seasons on Supernatural, he was still getting a feel for how to speak in a way that made him seem like a modern human. As an angel with no real sense of what he was supposed to be doing in a human body, Castiel struggled for some time, and then embraced the fact that he was going to sound a little awkward. During the final episode of Supernatural season 5, Castiel, Bobby (Jim Beaver) and Dean are seeking Sam, who's been possessed by Lucifer, so that Dean can attempt to reach his brother in some way.
When they reach Sam and find him with Adam (Jake Abel), who's been possessed by Michael, Castiel takes matters into his own hands when he tries to get Michael's attention. Yelling, "hey, ass butt," to pull focus before tossing a Molotov cocktail at Adam and burning him alive. While the rest of the scene involves some more intense moments between Dean and Sam, the exclamation quickly became one of Castiel's funniest moments of the series, and an all-time Supernatural line that came to be one of the fandom's favorites. Returning several times throughout the series, Castiel's exclamation became infamous.
Castiel Added Exciting Energy To Supernatural After Seasons Of The Winchesters
As one of the biggest additions to Supernatural over the course of the series, Castiel came into the story at the right time. While the first several seasons of the series only saw Sam and Dean going on their road trips to hunt demons and creatures, Castiel's insertion into the plot made for an interesting divergence.
