There are so many amazing games on Xbox Game Pass, ranging from humble indies to AAA blockbuster extravaganzas. Almost all the available titles are worth playing, which is great news for those who simply want to browse the service's library and pick something at random. However, for those looking for their next forever game, or who would ideally like to spend more than 10 hours playing something, finding a great title on Game Pass can be a little trickier.
Fortunately, there are a handful of extraordinarily long games on Xbox Game Pass that really will take you a lifetime to beat. From some of the greatest open-world games to engrossing strategy titles, Game Pass has those who want to play one game and nothing else for seemingly ever covered. This doesn't include obvious and free titles like Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves, as they are accessible everywhere and don't really require the service to be enjoyed.
5 Planet Coaster 2
It will only take you around 15 or so hours to clear Planet Coaster 2's Career mode, which doesn't sound like a lot. However, Planet Coaster 2's Career mode is ostensibly its tutorial, and 15 hours for a tutorial is a rather long time. That's not to say that the Career mode is boring or trivial, as it isn't; rather, Planet Coaster 2 uses its story to introduce newcomers and returning fans to its new mechanics, so that they're ready for the potentially thousands of hours that come after.
One can really spend anywhere between 100 and 1,000 hours building theme parks through each of Planet Coaster 2's various game modes. This is without spending any money on the numerous pieces of available DLC, all of which add even more to the core experience and will see your playtime skyrocket even further. Planet Coaster 2 is truly one of the longest games on Xbox Game Pass, and an enriching, engrossing experience even for those who've never played a theme park sim before.
4 Persona 5 Royal
Persona 5 Royal isn't just one of the greatest JRPGs ever crafted, although that is undeniably true. It also happens to be one of the longest too, with its huge runtime coming in at nearly 150 hours. As its core gameplay loop affords the player a great deal of freedom to do whatever they so desire, Persona 5 Royal's runtime can be stretched as much as one wants, with players opting to spend more time in the randomly generated Mementos or go through every single day of the month even if they don't need to.
Fortunately, doing these optional activities never feels like time wasted. The combat in Persona 5 Royal is extremely enjoyable, which makes grinding Mementos a lot of fun in a way that Persona 3 Reload could only dream of. Similarly, all the life sim mechanics help bring players closer to their various companions and social links, and also endear them more to the small world they inhabit through completing jobs, going to the cinema, and more. For JRPG fans, Persona 5 Royal is a no-brainer on Xbox Game Pass, and for those new to the genre, it's a great jumping-on point.
3 Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition may just be the greatest game in its series and one of the very best strategy games available right now. It is so generously stuffed with content that one could literally spend hundreds, if not thousands, of hours completing it all and enjoying the endlessly replayable modes. Indeed, the longest match of Age of Empires 2 took over 98 hours, although one probably shouldn't expect that to be the norm.
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is available for both PC and consoles, and is impressively optimized and playable on Xbox Series X/S.
Offering 42 different civilizations to play as, nearly 230 campaign missions to complete across said numerous factions, a plethora of DLC to greatly expand on the already existing content, the ability to play alone or against friends, and so much more make Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition a truly enormous game on Xbox Game Pass that will completely consume anyone who gets fully immersed within it. It is an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a forever game on Game Pass.
2 Assassin's Creed Valhalla
The longest Assassin's Creed game ever made is Valhalla. Its main story will take you around 60 hours to beat, but to do and see absolutely everything it has to offer, you're looking at around 150 hours (which doesn't even include its relatively lengthy DLC). That's a lot of content to get through, and, for the most part, it's pretty great, especially if you're already familiar with and love Ubisoft's approach to game design.
AC: Valhalla is one of the longest single-player open-world games available on Xbox Game Pass, making it the ideal choice for anyone who has plenty of time to kill and a penchant for Vikings. With its more Witcher 3-esque approach to combat and quest design, players can expect a slightly more challenging and rewarding experience than previous Assassin's Creed games (especially the RPG-focused ones). Of course, if the Viking setting doesn't do it for you, then fear not, as the majority of Assassin's Creed games are also on Game Pass, and most of them are very long.
1 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition
Of course, a list of the longest games on Xbox Game Pass would not be complete without a mention of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition. The base game alone, with its epic main story and many side quests, will take players upwards of 100 hours to beat, and the two included DLCs add another 50 hours on top of that. With the upcoming Witcher 3 DLC set to add even more content to the package, players can expect to easily spend close to 200 hours exploring Novigrad, Toussaint, the Skellige Isles, and many other places on the Continent.
For those who really want to spend as much time playing The Witcher 3 on Xbox Game Pass, there's also the infinitely replayable Gwent minigame, as well as various armor sets to collect and craft, unique monsters to slay, and the aforementioned abundance of side quests to complete. Fortunately, it's all truly worth doing, as every quest, minigame, and boss offers either a tangible reward you'll be grateful to have or a meaningful experience you'll remember forever. The Witcher 3 is truly one of the greatest (and longest) games on Xbox Game Pass, and a must-play for every subscriber.
