After over five years in early access, Valheim is finally graduating to version 1.0
Viking survival and crafting hit, Valheim, which first appeared in early access in early 2021, is almost ready for its full release. Developer Iron Gate announced at the PC Gaming Show that the game will officially launch on 9th September.
The release arrives alongside the last major update for the game, which we've known about for a while, too. Titled The Deep North, the update includes a new frozen biome, new enemies, weapons, bases, and more besides.
On that date, the game's PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Linux, and Mac versions will be updated to version 1.0. Iron Gate also confirmed that that's when the PlayStation 5 version, announced last year, will be released. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will likewise arrive on the same date.
We've been expecting the 1.0 for a little while now, so it's good to see all of the details nice and official. The even better news is that cross-play will be supported across all platforms, so everyone can play together from day one. Of course, you'll have to start a new world so everyone can experience the new content from the beginning.
When it first debuted in February 2021, Valheim was an immediate success. It sold 3m units in 16 days, and peaked at nearly 500,000 concurrent players on Steam, making it one of the platform's biggest releases that year.
