Agatha Christie’s Poirot Meets Sex Education In Netflix’s 12-Part Murder Mystery Masterpiece

After joining Screen Rant in January 2025, Guy became a Senior Features Writer in March of the same year, and now specializes in features about classic TV shows. With several years' experience writing for and editing TV, film and music publications, his areas of expertise include a wide range of genres, from comedies, animated series, and crime dramas, to Westerns and political thrillers.
Netflix has amassed an imposing collection of murder mystery shows over the past decade, including multiple Agatha Christie adaptations. It’s also become the go-to streaming platform for original coming-of-age dramas which offer sensitive depictions of adolescent angst and trauma, often with comedic undertones.
The landmark British comedy-drama Sex Education is, of course, the foremost among these series, but there's an ongoing murder mystery that isn’t far behind. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is unique in blending the intellectual puzzle-solving of Agatha Christie’s Poirot with the hard-hitting home truths and formative friendships of teenage life.
Having made her name as Enid Sinclair in Netflix’s teen comedy-horror behemoth Wednesday, Emma Myers fronts this series set in rural England, with an impressive local accent to boot. In addition, the cast of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder features Line of Duty’s Anna Maxwell Martin, and breakout star Zain Iqbal, who plays its version of Poirot’s Captain Hastings.
Among the detective shows out there for Agatha Christie fans to watch, this one is better suited to adolescent armchair sleuths than anything else on streaming. At the same time, anyone who enjoys the story of Otis, Maeve, and Eric navigating their way through teenage rites of passage will find plenty here to sympathize with.
A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder Feels Like Poirot Crossed With Sex Education
Joss Barratt/NetflixWhile it hasn’t yet made itself an indispensable part of conversations about the best coming-of-age shows on television, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder has scarcely put a foot wrong across its two seasons so far. The series strikes the perfect balance between a classic murder mystery in a quaint English village, and a compelling high-school melodrama.
It’s the characterization of Myers’ precocious amateur detective Pippa "Pip" Fitz-Amobi who ties these two sides of the story together. She exposes herself to genuine peril in the cause of mystery-solving, while her endearing friendship dynamic with Ravi Singh lightens the mood with all the right comedic beats when required.
Both Pip’s intensely rational approach to each season’s whodunit makes her a kindred spirit to Hercule Poirot, and the fictional village of Little Kilton, Buckinghamshire, is full of Agatha Christie tropes. On the other hand, it feels remarkably similar to Moordale, the picturesque setting of Netflix’s Sex Education, too.
Much like Otis MIlburn and Eric Effiong, the teenagers in A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder make the full gamut of teenage missteps through a world of hedonistic house parties and sexual experience, at the same time as grappling with their own identities. Only, in this series, adolescent themes also serve as the pretext for a gripping murder investigation.
Netflix Will Release The Show’s Third And Final Season In 2027
NETFLIX © 2026Because it’s based on a novel trilogy by author Holly Jackson, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is set to end with its third season. Netflix has already confirmed that the season will be released in 2027, although that’s likely to be in the second half of the year, given that season 2 arrived in spring 2026.
Anyone who’s read Jackson’s novel As Good as Dead will already be familiar with the plot of the show’s final installment, which consist of four episodes spanning just under an hour each. Expanding on the tonal shift in season 2, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season 3 will likely be the darkest of the series.

In it, Pip Fitz-Amobi will be forced to confront a stalker linked to a succession of historic killings in Little Kilton, immediately before she goes off to college. Even if there’s still another year before this story reaches our screens, it should be well worth the wait.
Until then, fans of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder should refer back to Holly Jackson’s original novels in preparation for its climactic finale. Besides the books, there are 70 episodes of Agatha Christie’s Poirot to rediscover, and four seasons of Sex Education deserving of a timely rewatch.
