Angelina Jolie's major life change revealed just days after she and ex Brad Pitt's twins celebrated 18th birthday

Angelina Jolie is reportedly set to make a major life change in the wake of her youngest children - twins Knox and Vivienne - turning 18 years old.

Vivienne and Knox became legal adults over the weekend on July 12 just weeks after graduating from high school.

And now, a source tells People that the Oscar-winning actress, 51, is preparing to 'experience the world' with her kids and is 'ready' to move on from life in California.

Jolie has 'been talking about leaving Los Angeles for years,' the insider claimed in an article published Wednesday.

'She has wanted them to experience the world and she's excited that they can all do more of that together now.'

Jolie shares her twins, as well as daughters Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and sons Maddox, 24, and Pax, 22, with ex-husband Brad Pitt, who she split from in 2016.

The couple were only married for two years, but together for 12 years overall before their shock separation. Jolie and Pitt had a bitter divorce, which was only just finalized in December 2024 after an eight-year court battle over custody and assets.

With her divorce behind her and all of her kids now in adulthood, Jolie is said to be 'happy to have more freedom and flexibility in her life.'

But People's source emphasized that Jolie's six children 'have always been her priority.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to Jolie's representatives for comment but has yet to hear back.

Jolie previously hinted that she was only living in Los Angeles due to family-related responsibilities involving legal issues stemming from her split with Pitt.

Last year, she also expressed her desire to unwind in picturesque Battambang in Cambodia and use New York City as a U.S.-base for work.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024, she said while she 'grew up in' Los Angeles, she remained in the city 'because I have to be here from a divorce.'

She referenced her now-18-year-old twins as she added: 'But as soon as they're 18, I'll be able to leave.'

'When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety,' she said at the time.

'I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be ... that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here,' Jolie continued.

She suggested that she would be moving to Asia after Vivienne and Knox became legal adults.

'I'll spend a lot of time in Cambodia,' Jolie mused. 'I'll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.'

In May, the mother of six listed her California compound for just under $30 million - just two months before Vivienne and Knox's July birthday.

The star's estate, once famously owned by filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, sits on 2.1 acres and features a six-bedroom, 10-bathroom mansion on the property.

The property is currently listed for a whopping $29.85 million and a source recently told the Daily Mail that she is struggling to sell and escape the 'bad memories of Brad Pitt.'

'Angelina is smart, she knew it would take a while to sell the property even though it is gorgeous and legendary, because the housing market has slowed in Los Angeles, but it still is annoying,' the Daily Mail's insider shared.

It comes after her and Pitt's daughter Zahara and son Maddox have published notices revealing their intentions to drop 'Pitt' from their last names, according to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail.

The advertisements were both published in the Los Angeles Daily Journal throughout June and July.

The notices both invite dissenting parties to appear at a scheduled hearing over the matter; Zahara's is scheduled for September 28 while Maddox's is on September 14.

In the state of California, those seeking to legally change their name must publish an Order to Show Cause - a document requesting the name change - for four weeks in a row in a newspaper before their court date.

A month prior, Zahara filed a petition requesting that her new name be Zahara Marley Jolie. Maddox also filed to drop the actor's last name in late May.

Pitt, the Daily Mail was told, feels his hands are tied, and an objection would only make things worse. Many close to the actor are convinced that the now-adult children are victims of a long-running 'alienation campaign.'

Jolie and Pitt's other children, Shiloh and Vivienne, have also stopped using the actor's last name. It is not known if Pax has stopped using the name as well.

Should Angelina Jolie leave LA now her kids are grown, or is family stability more important?

Additionally, Jolie has been involved an ongoing, contentious legal battle with Pitt over Château Miraval, a 1,200-acre estate and vineyard  in the south of France owned by the former couple.

They have been fighting over the $164 million villa and winery since 2022. The most recent update in the legal battle was just earlier this month when Jolie requested the judge to not require her to turn over her financial records to Pitt.

In a recent court filing, Jolie's attorneys argued Pitt mischaracterized her previous claims by suggesting she was dealing with 'financial vulnerability.'

Jolie's filing said she was hoping for 'financial independence from her ex-husband' not because she needed money but because she sought to separate her finances from Pitt.
