Apple TV Will Shoot Friday's Giants-Dodgers Game With 14 iPhone 18 Pros Hidden Around Dodger Stadium

Apple TV will shoot part of Friday's Giants at Dodgers game, the last "Friday Night Baseball" broadcast of the season, with 14 iPhone 18 Pro units built into Dodger Stadium, including inside the pitch clock, behind the backstop, on a foul pole, and in both bullpens. Eight of the phones will feed live video into the broadcast over a private T-Mobile 5G network, so what they see reaches your screen as it happens rather than as a replay package.

First pitch is 7:15 p.m. PT on Friday, September 18, and any Apple TV subscriber in the 60 countries and regions that carry the series can watch without a blackout, the same terms as the rest of the September schedule Apple and MLB announced last month. Beyond the game itself, the phones will cover batting practice, player introductions, the dugouts, and the crowd, the kind of material a broadcast truck usually gets from a roaming camera operator with a shoulder rig. As a huge baseball fan, I can personally vouch for the quality of Apple's production. 

The point of the phones is where they fit. A broadcast camera cannot live inside a pitch clock or hang on a foul pole for nine innings. An iPhone can, and the 18 Pro's 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera, with its new variable aperture and the Pro controls that put white balance and shutter speed a couple of taps away, gives a broadcast engineer something closer to a traditional camera to configure than a consumer phone with auto everything. The iPhone 18 Pro reaches stores on Friday, so the phone will be in a broadcast truck on the same day it lands in customers' hands.

Apple has been building toward this for a year. On September 26, 2025, four iPhone 17 Pro units captured live moments of the Red Sox and Tigers at Fenway Park from spots like the Green Monster and the dugouts, which Apple counts as its first use of an iPhone in a live sports broadcast, and one of those phones later went into the collection of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The phone then worked the 2025 MLS Cup, joined the regular production rotation for "Friday Night Baseball" and MLS games this season, and on May 23, 2026, shot an entire MLS broadcast, LA Galaxy against Houston Dynamo, on its own. Friday is the first outing for the new phone, and at 14 units, it is the largest iPhone deployment Apple has done for a baseball game.

The private network matters more than it sounds. Live video from a phone over ordinary cellular or stadium Wi-Fi is at the mercy of 50,000 people or more uploading at once. A network set up for the production, with the game's phones on it rather than the crowd, gives the truck a predictable path from the foul pole to the switcher, and it is how the eight connected phones can be cut into the broadcast like any other camera rather than queued up for a highlight reel.
