It seems that both Arc Raiders and The Finals are coming to the screen. Backrooms co-producer Chernin Entertainment announced it has secured adaptation rights from Nexon-owned Embark Studios and plans to make both TV series and movies based on the games.

Embark Studios founder and CEO Patrick Söderlund said the team will work closely with Chernin on the projects. “Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next big step in growing Arc Raiders and The Finals into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community,” Söderlund said in a press release. “Throughout the process, the creative teams at Embark Studios will work closely with Chernin to ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats.”

In a September interview with Polygon, Embark Studios Executive Producer Aleksander Grondal said the team was in talks to “take Arc Raiders to other types of mediums.” He added that they were still in the “early phase” at the time, meaning these newly announced projects are likely still far off.

“Arc Raiders and The Finals are exactly the kind of opportunities we’ve been building towards at Chernin Entertainment: ambitious global IP with the potential to become major franchises across film and television,” said David Ready, president of film at the company. Chernin was founded in 2009 and has co-produced blockbusters like the Planet of the Apes series, Fear Street, and Backrooms. It is currently co-producing a Mega Man adaptation with Capcom for Netflix.

What are Arc Raiders and The Finals about?

Arc Raiders has proven to be one of the most popular extraction shooters ever, selling over 16 million copies since its Oct. 30, 2025, release. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic future where machines called Arcs have claimed the surface, sending humanity underground. The game’s major Frozen Trail update is coming on Oct. 8, 2026, and will introduce a new map, additional enemies, "amplified weapons," and more. The full game will be free-to-play for four days alongside the expansion.

As for The Finals, it takes place in the year 2100 within a virtual reality game show that features plentiful firearms and explosives. The game has been quite successful, having logged around 30 million players since its Dec. 7, 2023, launch. It’s still getting major new updates, with changes on the way that will make its destruction system much more dynamic. If there's a common criticism against both games, it's that they use distractingly bad AI-generated voice acting. Hopefully, the screen adaptations leave this AI slop behind.
