Avowed: Yatzli Companion and Build Guide
Among the many companions available in Avowed, Yatzli earns a special place as she is the last one to unlock. Still, that doesn't mean you should put her last since she can be quite useful if her abilities are built up correctly. Let's see what her best skills are. Best Abilities to unlock for Yatzli in Avowed Since you have a limited pool of points available to upgrade your companions' skills, we recommend building up Yatzli by following her basic skill and her passive abilities as well. While she is a strong wizard, she has no support skills at all and, also, not a lot of health points, so you will need to be careful when strong enemies are around. Once her cons and pros are clear, these are the abilities we would recommend prioritizing: Essence Explosion: Yatzli will toss arcane energy that blows up when hitting enemies. Blast: Yatzli's magic attacks will burst into a small area after hitting one enemy, dealing AoE damage. Since Essence Explosion is unlocked right away, you can use Yatzli in an active role right away, along with exploiting the fact that she deals a rare damage type in Avowed, since Explosive damage is not that easy to come by. Next, upgrade Essence Explosion by picking Concentrated Essence and Scrappy Picking. The first one allows you to increase the blast radius, which is great for maximum damage across multiple foes. Scrappy Picking, on the other hand, reduces cooldown time but sacrifices damage. Image via Destructoid As for Blast, which can also damage a group of enemies, can be further upgraded to be effective. First, by unlocking Explosive Blast you can detonate attacks, which will make the area of effect even larger. Finally, you can also consider Force Blast, which, instead of dealing damage, will deal Stun effects to enemies. This comes in handy if you are playing as a ranger or a mage, for example. Yatzli' abilities, explained Yatzli's other abilities can still come in handy, depending on your build. She can also use Minoletta's Missile Battery and Arduous Delay of Motion. Overall, I recommend picking Arduous Delay of Motion which allows Yatzli to use her Arcane magic to slow down all enemies in the area of effect for ten seconds, with a 60-second cooldown. Image via Destructoid Minoletta's Missile Battery, on the other hand, is simply another version of the Magic Missile that your character can unlock at the beginning. Yatzli fires a volley of Arcane missiles that seek out enemies automatically. As for upgrades to Arduous Delay of Motion, consider Exhausting Field, since that will enlarge the area of effect so that you can be sure to have a great crowd control tool. Energy Sap is okay but lacks that multiple-enemies effect. To break it all down, here's my build recommendation for Yatzli. Abilities What they do Essence Explosion (Core) Toss arcane energy that blows up on impact. Concentrated Essence (Essence explosion upgrade) Increase the blast radius of the Essence Explosion. Blast (Core) After hitting one enemy, the burst of energy will explode causing damage to other enemies around. Explosive Blast (Blast upgrade) Detonate the blast attacks, making the area of effect even larger. Force Blast (Blast upgrade) Along with Explosive damage, you can deal Stun effects to enemies. Arduous Delay of Motion (Core) Slow down enemies in the area of effect for a few seconds. Exhausting Field (Arduous Delay of Motion upgrade) Enlarge the area of effect of Arduous Delay of Motion even further. Minoletta's Missile Battery (Core) Allows Yatzli to fire magic missiles that damage enemies. Best Companion to pair with Yatzli in Avowed Since Yatzli's role is that of the DPS wizard, she can pair well with a support character. Naturally, the first one that comes to mind is Giatta. Image via Destructoid She can recover health for the entire party, and her active Purification skill can save parties who are about to die. She also has a passive spell, Reconstruction, so that you and Yatzli can keep on fighting. Still, while this is the most sensible choice, you also should experiment, too. For example, if you need someone to draw attention away from you and Yatzli, Kai is the obvious choice, as she is great at taunting enemies. But for a bit of fun, we see Marius and Yatzli not getting along at all. So that's also a pretty fun choice if you are interested in funny banter and conversations.
