Baldur's Gate 3 gets Xbox Play Anywhere support on Xbox, PC

It's a feature Xbox fans have been anticipating since last fall, when Microsoft accidentally revealed Xbox Play Anywhere support in an Xbox Store listing before making an official announcement. The timing couldn't be much better for anyone who hasn't yet ventured into Faerûn. To celebrate the game's third anniversary, Baldur's Gate 3 is currently 30% off across multiple platforms.

Xbox Play Anywhere is Microsoft's cross-buy program that lets players purchase a supported game once through the Xbox Store and access it on both Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. The feature also carries over cloud saves, game progress, and Xbox achievements between supported devices.

If you're playing Baldur's Gate 3 on the go on a supported handheld like the ROG Xbox Ally X and run into a fight you'd rather take on at your desktop where you have more control, you can swap in no time without losing any game progress.

While Microsoft has steadily expanded the Play Anywhere catalog in recent years, support is still far from universal among third-party publishers. The program includes heavy hitters like The Outer Worlds 2, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but last month's added games were lackluster with PGA Tour 2K25 and Buckshot Roulette being the most interesting additions. That makes Baldur's Gate 3 one of the highest-profile additions to the program.

The update also arrives during another busy stretch for the RPG in terms of new, third-party stories. Although Larian has finished developing Baldur's Gate 3 and moved on to its next project, Divinity, the game's world continues to grow.

Earlier this year, Wizards of the Coast announced Baldur's Gate 3: Astarion, a prequel novel from bestselling fantasy author T. Kingfisher that explores the vampire spawn's life before the events of the game.

Dark Horse also recently announced an upcoming Baldur's Gate 3 comic series, though Larian later clarified that it is not involved with the project. Details about the comic remain scarce, but it's the latest sign that Wizards of the Coast is continuing to expand on one of gaming's biggest RPGs beyond the original release.

The franchise is also headed to television. Earlier this year, HBO announced a Baldur's Gate series from Chernobyl and The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin that will continue the story after the events of Baldur's Gate 3. Since that announcement, however, HBO and Hasbro have shared few additional details, leaving fans waiting for news on casting, production, or a release window.
