Barcelona targets €80M Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi in summer transfer window

Barcelona is zeroing in on Ayyoub Bouaddi, the 18-year-old Lille OSC midfielder who turned heads at the 2026 World Cup, and the price tag is steep. Lille has reportedly set an asking price in the range of €70M to €80M for a player who, just a couple of years ago, most fans outside of Ligue 1 had never heard of.

Barcelona isn’t the only club circling. Arsenal, PSG, Manchester City, and Liverpool are all reportedly interested, which means this could turn into a multi-club auction that inflates fees well beyond the initial asking price.

What Barcelona is actually chasing

Bouaddi plays as a central midfielder. His performances at the 2026 World Cup, representing France on the biggest stage at just 18, put him on the radar of every major European club simultaneously.

Lille recently extended Bouaddi’s contract through 2029, a move designed to strengthen their negotiating position. With three years remaining on the deal, Lille has no urgency to sell and can afford to hold firm on valuation.

That said, some reports suggest the actual transfer fee could land closer to €55M to €60M if negotiations progress.

Barcelona’s broader strategy this summer

Barcelona already agreed to an €80M transfer for forward Anthony Gordon from Newcastle back in May 2026. If the Bouaddi deal closes at a similar level, Barcelona would be committing roughly €160M on two players, both under 25.

The competition factor

Arsenal, PSG, Manchester City, and Liverpool all have the financial muscle to match or exceed whatever Barcelona offers. PSG adds an interesting wrinkle: as a fellow Ligue 1 club, they have familiarity with Bouaddi’s capabilities.

Lille’s extended contract through 2029 means they can afford to wait for the right offer, and multiple suitors create leverage that strengthens their negotiating position.

What this means for the market

At €55M to €60M, Barcelona would be acquiring a World Cup-caliber teenager with three years of contract leverage remaining at his current club. At the full €80M asking price, the margin for error shrinks considerably.
