Bob Odenkirk's 92-Minute John Wick Replacement Action Hit Is Leaving Streaming Soon

Five years ago, a wildly entertaining action comedy turned Bob Odenkirk into a surprisingly convincing, John Wick-style action hero, and that movie is leaving streaming shortly. The John Wick movies gave R-rated action movies a much-needed kick up the rear. They dropped the shaky-cam, quick-cut style of action pioneered by the likes of Taken, and instead allowed Keanu Reeves to show off his martial arts and shooting skills.
A slew of John Wick replacements followed, from Extraction to Atomic Blonde. Now, it's doubtful fans of either Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul looked at Bob Odenkirk and thought he would ever front his own John Wick-inspired actioner, but that's exactly what happened with 2021's Nobody.
Written by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, Nobody cast Odenkirk as a quiet family man named Hutch who was once a highly gifted assassin. When he is targeted by a Russian gangster, Hutch has to shed his nice guy persona and take up his old life. Nobody was a solid hit upon release, and earned a sequel with 2025's aptly titled Nobody 2.
Nobody Turned Bob Odenkirk Into A John Wick-Esque Action Hero
Odenkirk had no real experience with action back in 2021, aside from being a fan of the genre. The star was in his late 50s when he signed on to Nobody, and he does an impressive job with the film's many fistfights and shootouts. The movie never quite tops the incredible bus fight from the first act, where a frustrated Hutch vents his simmering anger on a group of thugs.
John Wick co-director David Leitch acted as producer on both Nobody movies.
One thing that sets Hutch apart from John Wick is that he is a bit of a klutz. Having been a family man for years, he's lost his edge as a super assassin, so his fight scenes lack the grace of Reeves' Baba Yaga. This only adds to the visceral intensity of Nobody's fights, as they feel more impactful and nasty. In short, when Hutch takes a hit, it feels painful.
It would be easy to see an established action star like Liam Neeson or the great Scott Adkins doing a version of this story, but Odenkirk just brings a different energy. Naturally, he's very funny when he wants to be, but he brings a welcome vulnerability to Hutch too. When he finally starts kicking everyone's a** in Nobody's ending scenes, it feels very earned.
Nobody Should Get A 3rd Movie
Nobody 2 is the definition of a three-star experience. Like the original, it's only about 90 minutes long, the cast all do fun work, and the action staged by Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes For Us) is nice and crunchy. Still, it lacks the spark that made the first entry so fun, and has no standout setpieces like Nobody's bus fight.
It also had a common sequel problem where it cost more to produce, but made less, grossing $43 million on an estimated budget of $25 million (via Box Office Mojo). Those aren't the kinds of numbers that inspire producers to make another entry, and it's not surprising that talk of a potential Nobody 3 has gone quiet.
Still, Odenkirk has kept up with the genre, fronting the 2025 action thriller Normal, which was better received critically than Nobody 2. The star says he has ideas for a third and fourth entry too, but that is dependent on the studio giving them a greenlit. Given the underperformance of Nobody 2, that might not happen now.
Nobody's Streaming Exit Date
Nobody is a lot of fun, even for those who don't love the action genre. The film is currently streaming on Peacock, but will exit that platform on October 31. That means Peacock subscribers are running out of time to watch this underrated action gem - or re-watch it.
Until a new streaming home is announced for Nobody, those who wish to check out Odenkirk's action debut will either need to rent or purchase it online. Buying it on home media is also an option - which might help the odds of a third movie happening.
