Boeing shares gained Wednesday after Turkish Airlines finalized a major order for up to 150 737 MAX aircraft. BA traded at $199.52, up 0.91%, after briefly climbing above $201 during the session. The agreement strengthens Boeing’s commercial backlog while supporting Turkish Airlines’ long-term fleet expansion.
Turkish Airlines Places Major 737 MAX Order
Turkish Airlines purchased 100 Boeing 737-8 aircraft and secured options for another 50 MAX jets. The agreement represents the carrier’s largest single-aisle aircraft order from Boeing. Turkish Airlines completed the deal after discussions between both companies started during 2025.
The agreement also gives Turkish Airlines substitution rights for Boeing’s larger 737-10 model. Therefore, the carrier can adjust future deliveries as passenger demand and route requirements change. Boeing designed the 737-10 to carry more passengers while maintaining the MAX family’s operating characteristics.
Turkish Airlines plans to use the new aircraft across domestic and international routes from Istanbul. The airline expects the jets to improve efficiency and provide additional flexibility across its expanding network. Meanwhile, the order supports capacity growth as Turkish Airlines increases services across major markets.
Boeing Expands Longstanding Turkish Airlines Partnership
Turkish Airlines and its AJet subsidiary already operate more than 200 Boeing aircraft. Their fleet includes 737 MAX, 787 Dreamliner, 777, 737 Next-Generation and 777 Freighter aircraft. The latest order will further increase Boeing’s presence within the group’s expanding fleet.
Boeing says the 737 MAX uses about 20% less fuel than aircraft it replaces. The improved efficiency can reduce operating costs while supporting longer routes and higher passenger demand. Turkish Airlines can also use the aircraft’s payload flexibility across different markets and seasonal schedules.
The agreement includes industrial participation linked to Türkiye’s broader aviation industry. Boeing has maintained commercial and industrial relationships within the country for several years. The latest transaction extends that cooperation as Turkish Airlines builds its Istanbul-based global network.
Order Builds on Turkish Airlines Fleet Expansion
The 737 MAX agreement follows Turkish Airlines’ 2025 order for up to 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Together, the orders support a broader plan to expand the airline’s fleet and international reach. Turkish Airlines continues adding aircraft as passenger traffic increases across its network.
The carrier currently operates 567 passenger and cargo aircraft across its entire fleet. Turkish Airlines serves 358 destinations, including 305 international destinations and 53 domestic destinations. Its network currently reaches 133 countries through Istanbul and other operating points.
For Boeing, the latest order adds another major commitment from a large international carrier. The deal also strengthens demand for the 737 MAX family alongside Boeing’s widebody aircraft portfolio. Boeing stock remained positive late Wednesday despite giving back part of its earlier intraday gain.
