The official sequel to Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive is about one year away from arriving, and fans of the author, the saga, and the Cosmere universe may want to mark their calendars so that they don’t miss it. There’s a lot going on for fans of the fantasy author and his works. The Mistborn series is getting a film adaptation covering The Final Empire, while The Stormlight Archive series is becoming a TV series pretty soon. A new Mistborn: Well of Ascension release is scheduled to arrive in November this year, and there’s plenty more in the making.

One of those many things is an official sequel to The Stormlight Archive, called Tidebreakers. Revealed in a post by Brotherwise Games, Tidebreakers is a new adventure set in The Stormlight Archive series, which will expand the Cosmere’s gaming universe. Tidebreakers is set to release in October 2027, about a year from now, and fans will be able to dive into the Stormlight Archive in a way they haven’t before, with brand-new narrative possibilities – many of which will be of their own making.

So what is Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight: Tidebreakers release? Tidebreakers is a newly announced campaign adventure for the Stormlight Campaign Setting in the Cosmere TTRPG. The new release will be a new level 10-16 adventure module that will take place in the Reshi Isles, during the events portrayed in the Oathbringer, Rhythm of War, and Wind and Truth novels of the Stormlight series. Effectively speaking, Tidebreakers is a sequel to the Stonewalkers adventure, which has already been released.

As is highlighted in the post, there are a couple of missing levels between the upcoming Tidebreakers and Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight: Stonewalkers adventure. For reference, Stonewalkers is designed as a level 1-8 adventure. According to the team that presented Tidebreakers during Gen Con, the idea is to either have your characters go on a homebrew adventure set in The Stormlight Archive or simply have them level up to 10, as if they had gone on other quests during that time.

Another option to level up within this setting for the Cosmere TTRPG, at least for those who backed the Cosmere RPG Kickstarter campaign, is to tackle the Showdown in Shadesmar, a stretch goal that was unlocked and will be given to all Kickstarter backers for free in 2027. Even though these adventure modules are prepared for facilitated gameplay, they don’t limit players from exploring other regions, interacting with characters that aren’t in the module, and more. That is, after all, one of the beauties of TTRPGs.

When comparing D&D to the Cosmere RPG system, there are some big differences, even if they are both D20 systems. Much like the classic TTRPG, the Cosmere RPG continues to grow with several releases and tons of possibilities. This is all thanks to the large repertoire established by Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere universe, which contains the Stormlight Archive, Mistborn, and many others.
