Chainsaw Man's New Trailer Teases The Series' Most Nightmarish Devil Of All Time

Just over nine months later, during the studio's 15th anniversary special livestream event, MAPPA revealed an all-new trailer for Chainsaw Man's next section. Assasins Arc, as it's currently titled, will continue Denji's story from the exact point the Reze Arc movie ended, and it's expected to be the series' most chaotic section yet.

Assassins from around the world will be unleashed in pursuit of Chainsaw Man's heart, as Denji, along with some new faces in Public Safety, will remain on high alert at all times for any incoming threat. As expected from Chainsaw Man, however, humans will not be the biggest threat to the series' morally ambiguous protagonist. The Assassins Arc will be home to the series' most terrifying devil yet.

Chainsaw Man's Latest Trailer Teases the Arrival of the Series' Most Dangerous Devil Yet

As expected from the franchise at this point, Chainsaw Man's latest trailer is high energy and tense, with frantic music blasting over top of visuals of the upcoming arc's most important characters. However, surprisingly enough, there isn't much action in the trailer, though action from the climactic final battle might contain a few more spoilers than fans might like. Nevertheless, the final seconds of the trailer contain a shot of the Assassins Arc's most important setting.

Just as the trailer ends, fans will get a glimpse at Hell, where the characters are transported during the overwhelmingly chaotic fight with the dolls and Santa Claus. Manga readers will know what comes shortly after this panel appears in Fujimoto's original work. From one of the many doors lining the sky drops what appears to be a small smudge of darkness. From there, the now iconic panels of the astronauts lined up in a row, praying to their own severed lower halves usher in the arrival of the Darkness Devil.

The Darkness Devil is the first Primal Fear Devil introduced in Chainsaw Man, and it's arguably the most terrifying Devil throughout the entirety of the series. Its appearance is downright disturbing, and it speaks an otherworldly language before quickly inflicting severe damage to the main cast, stealing their arms from their bodies. When Makima appears in Hell to rescue the crew, Darkness mangles her arms and fingers with a mere point in her direction.

Chainsaw Man has never before or since introduced such an intimidating force, and considering just how iconic its entrance in the manga has become, MAPPA will have their work cut out for them in attempting to recreate such visceral horror.

Chainsaw Man's Next Arc Changes Everything About Its Story

The Assassins Arc, though it's relatively brief in the original manga, features many moving pieces, and it ultimately places them where they need to be in the set-up of the final third of Chainsaw Man Part One. Hell is introduced, Makima's shady actions are further explored, and Angel, in conversation with Aki, references the mysterious origins of the Chainsaw Devil, all highly important developments in the final showdown of the Public Safety saga.

It is currently unknown whether the Assassins Arc will be a movie or a TV season, though it would work just as well in either format. If it is Chainsaw Man's second season, MAPPA will likely have to add later storybeats or beef up episode runtime, given the relatively short length of the arc in the source material. Regardless of the format, fans can expect the next arc to steal the spotlight once again and rule online discourse throughout the global anime community.
