Nine has dropped Eddie McGuire from Footy Classified after six years of sitting on the mid-week panel.

The network confirmed to Daily Mail on Friday that the Tuesday edition of the show has been cancelled amid a major TV shake-up ahead of the 2027 programming slate.

However, the Monday night edition of the post-weekend football panel will return next year with hosts Sam McClure, Matthew Lloyd, Jimmy Bartel and Damian Barrett.

'The Tuesday edition of Footy Classified will not return next year,' a spokesperson said.

'However, our dedication to comprehensive AFL coverage continues strong in 2027 with The Sunday Footy Show, the 21st season of Monday's Footy Classified, Footy Furnace, Players, and our support for the My Room Telethon.'

Eddie, 61, will continue to have a role at Nine, with the veteran presenter set to host coverage of the Melbourne Cup Carnival as well as other special footy events, despite not having a regular weekly presenting role.

The presenter's media company JAM TV will continue to produce the remaining edition of Footy Classified.

JAM TV also produces Footy Furnace on Nine, which is said to be expanding to help fill the hole left by the absence of Footy Classified on Tuesday nights.

Footy Classified originally launched in 2007 with SEN media mogul Craig Hutchison and news reporter Caroline Wilson as the hosts.

Eddie began with the show in 2020 when he hosted the Wednesday night edition, which was later moved to Tuesday.

It comes after Eddie also had his ARN flagship program The Long Weekend cancelled following the axing of co-host Karl Stefanovic.

The radio show lasted six episodes before the radio network scrapped it in the wake of Karl's controversial podcast interview with far-right activist Tommy Robinson.

Eddie and Karl were announced as the high-profile hosts of the weekend show in May, in the first major move made by ARN after cancelling The Kyle & Jackie O Show.

However, the 'landmark multi-platform deal' lost its legs when Karl copped backlash over his interview with Tommy and was subsequently fired from Nine and ARN.

Eddie confirmed in early July that he would not be sharing the mic with Karl as he sent well-wishes to his close mate during an episode of the show.

'As extensively reported this week, my co-host and friend Karl Stefanovic will no longer be part of The Long Weekend show, as he dedicates the next phase of his amazingly successful career to his podcast, The Karl Stefanovic Show,' Eddie said.

'I wish Karl the best of luck as his storied and ever-colourful media journey continues.

'Good on you, Karlos. It was short and sweet, mate, and I wish you all the best.'

Karl had appeared on just two episodes of the three-hour Friday show, broadcast across ARN's Gold radio network.

Eddie now hosts the hour-long show Gold Sport every Friday and Monday on ARN's Gold Network alongside co-host Abbey Gelmi.
