Dakota Johnson, Role Model Break Up Weeks After He Confirmed Romance

Dakota Johnson hasn't freed herself from the dating musicians.

The Verity actress, who recently stepped out with Machine Gun Kelly following her breakups with Role Model and Chris Martin, joked about what her relationship type is while coyly sharing insight into her love life.

Despite initially telling Vogue in an interview published Sept. 18, "I don’t want to say anything about that" when asked about the current status of her love life, Johnson—who directed Coldplay's 2020 music video for "Cry Cry Cry" when she was dating Martin—expressed an openness to directing more music videos in the future.

After the interviewer noted that she does "know a lot of musicians," the Fifty Shades star confessed that there's a mutual affinity between her and rockers.

"They like me," she quipped. "I don’t know what to say."

After waiting a beat, Johnson added, "And I like them."

When the interviewer then asked "What's not to like?" the 36-year-old followed it up with an even cheekier comment.

"A lot! A lot," Johnson said with a laugh. "Tricky motherf--kers."

The exchange comes nearly a month after the actress and Role Model (real name Tucker Pillsbury) reportedly split after less than a year of dating. (E! News reached out to reps for Johnson and Role Model for comment at the time but didn't heard back.)

The 29-year-old had also just raved about collaborating with Johnson on his latest album Chuck Timely & the Hourglass, in which she made a spoken-word cameo on the track "Love I You."

"I had a lot of names to pick from that," Role Model shared in a Nylon interview published Aug. 4 admitted, explaining how producer Mason Stoops played a role in making it happen. "Dakota came to the studio one day and Mason was like, ‘Why don’t you do it?'"

Though the "Sally When the Wine Runs Out" singer was initially hesitant—thinking, "Stop! We’re not mixing work and relationships"—he eased up on the idea once he saw the Madame Web actress jump on board.

"She was like, ‘I’ll do it,’ and stood right up and got in the booth and knocked it out better than we could have imagined," he remembered. "So I was like, OK, if she’s down—I mean, that’s an amazing cameo."

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

The Grammy winner saw sparks fly with the Kansas City Chiefs football player during the cruel summer of 2023.

“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” she told TIME in December 2023. “We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

But there was no denying the alchemy between this duo.

In August 2025, Kelce proposed to the "Enchanted" singer in his backyard and the pair officially tied the knot in July 2026.

And while neither Styles, nor Kravitz confirmed their romance, the High Fidelity alum shared a bit of insight into their high profile romance.

“I’m aware it’s happening,” she told British Vogue of the interest in the pair's relationship in June 2026. “I’m aware when it’s happening, like when there are eight people outside my house, that’s super uncomfortable. I’m aware of all the ingredients that create the thing we’re talking about. But that doesn’t mean you’re necessarily OK with it.”
