Daniel Radcliffe Jokes His Son, 3, Didn’t Miss Him During Broadway Run

Daniel Radcliffe didn't need veritaserum to know this truth.

The Harry Potter star reflected on his recent run on Broadway's Every Brilliant Thing—a one-man show that saw him performing eight shows across six days every week—and how his and Erin Darke's 3-year-old son didn't seem to mind his dad's absence.

"There's some ways in which theater is great for having a kid," Daniel told E! News at the 2026 Tony Awards—where he's nominated for Lead Actor in a Play—on June 7. "You get so much time during the day to be with them, but the six days a week—that gets tough eventually and like I really missed him."

He then quipped, "He was fine, he didn't miss me."

For the 36-year-old, while his absence didn't seem to weigh on his child—whose name he and Erin haven't revealed—Daniel said his son was always on his mind while performing Every Brilliant Thing, which is a reflection on the many moments that make life joyous.

"I found doing a show that says something about the world that I really wanted to be a part of saying—my son's a real inspiration in wanting to say that," he added. "And when I was thinking about certain things in the show, I would think about him a lot, so he was actually quite energizing."

But while Daniel's son was too young to understand the play at this point, he hopes the show's message will one day have an impact on his son's life.

As for the actor's other bodies of work, Daniel isn't sure they'll pack the same punch.

"If he likes any of them, that will feel like a victory as a parent," he joked. "I feel like nothing your parents do is cool, so he'll probably just watch me and be like, 'What are you doing?'"

He's also worried about the day his and Erin's son might be curious enough to watch the movie where his parents met and fell in love, 2013's Kill Your Darlings—which also sees the pair engage in an intimate scene.

"God forbid he ever watches the film where me and his mom met on, because it's just.. it's just going to be an awkward watch for a variety of reasons for him," Daniel continued. "Honestly, if I could stop him from ever knowing I was an actor or famous, I would do that."

As he explained, "I'm in this beautiful phase right now where I'm just his dad to him and nothing else, and I'm gonna hang on to that for as long as possible."
