Diablo 5 Shows Off Its Brand New Plague Knight Class

And more new Diablo classes are on the way in the 2029 sequel

The plague knight class is revealed during Diablo 5's BlizzCon 2026 panel

Shortly after its reveal at the BlizzCon 2026's Opening Ceremony, a panel dedicated to revealing more about the newly-announced Diablo 5 was held. We not only learned more about the game's narrative and focus on procedural generation there, but also learned that it will introduce at least one new class at launch.

What Diablo 5 classes were revealed at BlizzCon 2026?

The Plague Knight was the new Diablo class confirmed during the panel. Game director Joe Shely described the Plague Knight as "walking death," a heavily-armored knight character who both spreads diseases on the battlefield and consumes that disease to buff itself. While we've yet to see any gameplay from Diablo 5, that already doesn't sound quite like any class we've seen in the franchise before.

Blizzard also confirmed that the Monk and Demon Hunter classes will be in Diablo 5 on day one, and that the game would have more classes at launch than other Diablo titles have had. In typical Diablo fashion, each class will then have a multitude of different builds that players can progress into. Shely teased that there will be multiple new classes in Diablo 5, so the Plague Knight is just the start.

Diablo 5's caravan setup is unlike any other Diablo game

It also sounds like Diablo 5 will differ greatly from the other games before it in terms of structure. As the reveal trailer showed, this is a world completely decimated by Diablo — who will be a fully fleshed-out character in this game — so it won't have your standard town and questgiver structure.

Instead, players travel with a caravan in Diablo 5, growing it slowly throughout the adventure. You'll only have one blacksmith, for example, and that blacksmith will be the source of many side quests and be a deep and engaging character in their own right. A Treasure Goblin will even join up with your caravan, so it'll be interesting to see how Diablo 5 humanizes one of the franchise's most iconic enemies.

The panel also teased that when you venture outside the caravan, Diablo 5's world and dungeons will be procedurally generated. We'll have to wait a while longer before seeing how all of that works, as Diablo 5 will not be released until Spring 2029.
