When the pet-collecting media craze of the late '90s hit, a lot of industry pundits could never predict that we'd still see Digimon and Pokémon going strong. What was once seen as a fad has become a bona fide sector of the economy, especially in regard to Pokémon. Both lines have expanded into myriad formats, including TCGs, video games, shows, and much more.

So what has Digimon been up to lately? Well, for starters, Bandai Namco dropped Digimon Story: Time Stranger last year, and the Switch and Switch 2 ports just launched this month. Given its positive reception, it's a good indicator that the series is still going strong. The Digimon Beatbreak anime is also still airing its first season, which kicked off in October 2025.

Thanks to a new official announcement from the Digimon website, we're clued into a major September release for the series.

Digimon Adventure Movie 02

Although the Digimon Card Game has seen multiple iterations since the late '90s, the current iteration has been going strong since 2020. In many local game stores, it's one of the top games for weeklies (if not the top game), and sets have been released consistently ever since. Now, we know that the new set, Timeless Bonds, is due out on September 4, 2026.

Pre-release for the set will begin on August 28, while the official date for the set is September 4. As usual, packs will retail at $4.99 USD, and there are 108 cards included, split among the following rarities:

Each pack has 12 cards, and each box contains 24 booster packs. Known as "BT-26," this is the 26th set for the current version of the card game. So far, Digimon that are confirmed for the set include Pristimon, Rosemon, and Hyokomon. The former is one of the crown jewels of the set, as fans are excited for its release.

The next set will be EX-13 Extra Booster - Chivalrous XIII. That's due on October 2, and will contain 81 cards as a smaller set. As you might be able to glean from the product code, it's the 13th "extra booster set."

The future is looking bright for Digimon fans. Even if you're not a fan of TCGs, there are still plenty of other avenues to explore. That said, pre-release is a great low-stakes (and low-budget) way to experience a TCG.
