Doja Cat changes lyrics to her hit song Paint the Town Red during Dallas show after Democrat blue wave sweeps Texas

Doja Cat celebrated the big midterm elections victory for the Democrats - dubbed the 'blue wave' - at her show in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday.

The singer, 31, made a playful lyric change after James Talarico pulled off a political earthquake in Texas, defeating scandal-plagued Republican Ken Paxton to become the first Democrat elected to the state's Senate delegation in 38 years.

The extraordinary victory shattered a Republican stranglehold on the Lone Star State, which has not elected a Democrat to any statewide office since 1994.

Doja was performing her 2023 hit song Paint the Town Red at Dallas' American Airlines Center for her Tour Ma Vie stop, when she made a poignant change to the lyrics in a TikTok video shared by a fan.

The song originally goes, 'I let all that get to my head / I don't care, I paint the town red.'

But on Wednesday the rapper, who sizzled in a silver bikini on stage, changed the lyrics to, 'I let all that get to my head/ I don't care, I paint the town blue.'

Before starting the song, she was heard telling the crowd, 'We're going to replace it with blue' as they erupted in cheers.

Paint the Town Red reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, becoming the first solo female rap song to hold the top spot.

It comes after Democrats seized the House of Representatives and the Senate in a devastating double blow to President Donald Trump that could mark the beginning of the end for the MAGA era.

In what amounted to a political earthquake, the midterm elections saw a series of deep-red states turn blue.

South Carolina elected a Democrat senator for the first time since 1998.

Most remarkably of all, Kansas sent a Democrat to the US Senate, which it had not done since 1932 during the Great Depression.

There were further stunning Democrat Senate victories in Iowa and Ohio, states Trump won by more than 10 points in the presidential election in 2024.

In one of the most-watched races left-wing Democrat Abdul El-Sayed declared victory over Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan, making him the first Muslim elected to the Senate.

Jubilant Democrats described the results as a 'blue tsunami' or a 'Bluenami.'

Although he was not on the ballot, the midterms were effectively a nationwide referendum on Trump. Republicans' crushing losses were a dagger to the heart for the White House where a vicious blame game immediately began.

Voters appeared to have passed a damning judgment on Trump's inability to bring down the cost of living for ordinary Americans, according to exit polls.

The results, reflecting a huge shift in Trump's once impressive MAGA base, will also cast a cloud over any ambitions Vice President JD Vance has for a 2028 run.

Losing both chambers of Congress will mean Trump entering lame duck territory in his final two years in office.

He will face Democrat-led corruption investigations into himself, his allies and family, and could even be impeached for a third time.

Democratic congressman Robert Garcia will lead some of the probes as the chair of the House Oversight Committee. He issued a blunt two-word statement: 'Lawyer up.'

It also means Trump will now be blocked from getting much of his agenda through Congress.

The President will have to rely on issuing executive orders in areas where he retains authority, including tariffs, immigration, foreign policy and military actions, and the use of his veto power to stop Democrats getting their policies made law.
