Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 got a new trailer during today’s State of Play Japan, showing off the game’s very Dragon Ball sense of style, as well as its variety of customization options. The player character charges up attacks and uses legendary Dragon Ball techniques as the camera cuts to the original character who used that particular move: we see Vegeta’s kicks, Hit’s volley of supersonic punches, and Android 17’s charged energy attack.

“Create your ultimate Avatar and fight your way through Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3,” the trailer’s description reads. “Choose from six unique Avatar races, including the new Android race, and customize your combat style with Fighting Styles, Soul Assist, Awoken Skills, Soul Switch, Abilities, and more. With more than 130 characters, including non-playable characters, to learn from, build the fighter that matches how you want to move, transform, attack, and dominate every battle.” The trailer highlights these options as the player character shifts between human and various alien forms while charging up a Kamehameha.

When does Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 take place?

For those unfamiliar with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, the game is an action RPG set in a far future timeline after the mainline Dragon Ball story. Specifically, it takes place in Age 1000. This puts it 148 years after Xenoverse 2 and 150 years after the first Xenoverse, both of which are also set long after the main series concludes. Players summon legendary characters from the mainline Dragon Ball series, like Goku and Frieza, and can integrate their attacks into their moveset. Dimps is returning to develop the game after handling the first two Xenoverse entries, released in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

While fans of this action RPG are excited that this series is finally returning, some are up in arms that Xenoverse 3 limits the amount of time your character can stay Super Saiyan. In the previous Xenoverse titles, this transformation lasted for the remainder of a mission. We’ll see how much this change affects the game when it comes out sometime in 2027.
