Elizabeth Holmes Says She Was “Silenced for a Long Time” in Rare Message Ahead of Documentary

Elizabeth Holmes is speaking directly to her supporters.

Amid her 11-year sentence for defrauding investors and mere weeks away from the Oct.16 premiere of the documentary chronicling her life over the last three years, You Can See Everything, Holmes shared a message directly to her followers.

“I was silenced for a long time,” the 42-year-old­—who shares two kids with partner Billy Evans—wrote on X Sept. 27. “And then imprisoned. I am fighting to prove my innocence and come home to my babies and the love of my life.”

Noting she has been in prison “for 1,216 endless days and nights,” Holmes wrote that many of her loved ones, including Evans, have been managing her social media accounts in her absence.

“He fights fiercely for me and our family,” she noted of her partner. “I love him beyond space and time.”

Moving forward, however, messages shared to her social accounts that come directly from Holmes will be marked with “-EAH,” with everything else coming from her team. (Her bio on X reads, “Mostly my words, posted by others.”)

Not only has news that Holmes is scheduled to move from a minimum-security federal prison to a halfway house in 2027 caused reinterest in her case, but her message on being “silenced” comes after Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim released the trailer for their upcoming film You Can See Everything.

The documentary, which was initially only supposed to chronicle the 34 days before Holmes headed to prison, ultimately follows Holmes and Evans across three years, resulting in a 174-minute project. 

But while the documentary was filmed over several years, its mere existence only became known on Sept. 6, when Oppenheim and Fielder premiered the film with a secret showing at the Telluride Film Festival. A24, the production company, released a teaser trailer later that day. 

For Oppenheim and Fielder, the secrecy was a necessary component of the project.

As the former told Variety in an interview published Sept. 25, “Keeping it under wraps was very important we never wanted to get in front of what we were capturing. It was always about letting life unfold. Part of how we pulled it off was working with a very small crew, about seven or eight people.”
