Ella Langley unseats Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas as longest-running No. 1 in Billboard chart history

Ella Langley's song Choosin' Texas has broken the record held by Mariah Carey's perennial All I Want for Christmas Is You.

Her hit single has now become the longest-running No. 1 hit of all time after leading a 23-week streak at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The 27-year-old country star overtook Carey's iconic holiday carol, which has topped the charts every winter holiday season since the song was released in 1994.

Choosin' Texas was released on October 17, 2025, and served as the lead single from Langley's second studio album Dandelion. 

She collaborated with Miranda Lambert, among many other talents, in the writing and production of the song.

Shaboozey's smash hit A Bar Song (Tipsy) is now tied in third place after a 19-week streak at the top of the charts in 2024. 

Old Town Road by Lil Nas X, featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, also scored the number-one spot for the same length of time in 2019. 

Three songs occupy the 16-week, fourth-place spot: Morgan Wallen's Last Night in 2023; Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and featured artist Justin Bieber's Despacito (2017) and Carey's One Sweet Day collaboration with Boyz II Men, which was on the charts from 1995 through 1996.

To date, Langley has also broken the record for the longest-running solo female artist to top the chart for a non-holiday song.

And back in May, the Alabama-born country star's song surpassed Taylor Swift's 2012 hit We Are Never Getting Back Together for the most weeks at number one by a female country artist. 

Langley's rise to fame with the monster hit had overwhelmed her so much last year that she abruptly canceled shows in August 2025 and retreated home to Alabama.

To escape the pressures of Nashville, she bought a secluded waterfront home on Alabama's Lake Jordan, which was nearly next door to her parents. 

'This is a girl who grew up on a red dirt road,' Langley's aunt Ruth Meek told the Daily Mail last month. 

'She's not faking it. So it's not surprising she had a bit of an identity crisis in Nashville.'

Langley told fans she'd become run down and needed to care for her 'mind, body, and heart,' and has since spoken openly about depression, which she calls a 'family disease,' and the impostor syndrome, a fear of being exposed as a fraud, she felt as her career exploded.

The break back home paid off, inspiring one of the most personal songs on her new album, 'Dandelion.'

Langley, who got a publishing deal in Nashville as a songwriter before her record deal, said the tune 'Loving Life Again' grew out of the weeks she took off to 're-find' herself and reconnect with God.

'Dandelion' is bookended by the old folk song, 'Froggy Went A-Courting,' that she used to sing alongside her grandfather.

Langley also released old footage of them singing together when she was a child.

And the people who knew Langley before the fame say her return to Alabama was crucial to her enormous burst of success this year.
