Keanu Reeves has earned an untouchable status in 2026, after working in Hollywood for over four decades and surviving to major fluctuations in his star power. He’s arguably never been as in demand, having engineered a remarkable career renaissance that completely reinvented his profile with John Wick.
Impressively for someone who has played characters as defining as Theodore “Ted” Logan, Neo, Wick, and even John Constantine, Reeves has also defied typecasting. He’s been an action star, a romantic lead, a dark sci-fi hero and anti-hero, and a martial artist, as well as being known as one of the best people working in Hollywood.
He’s bounced back from flops like Johnny Mnemonic, Replicas, and 47 Ronin, made genuine cult classics like The Devil’s Advocate, Man of Tai Chi, and My Own Private Idaho, and you wouldn’t be particularly surprised to see him double-barrel a major blockbuster and an indie project in the same year. Looking at Reeves' slate of movies for next year and beyond, that might be less of a thing in the future, though, because he has some seriously big movies coming.
If all the movies Keanu Reeves is attached to make it to the big screen - and there’s no reason to believe otherwise - we’ll see his long-awaited return to comic book movies, three huge animations, one incredible sounding high-concept sci-fi, and more in between. Here’s what you need to know.
8 Constantine 2
Long before DC tried to emulate the MCU’s expanded universe model of movie-making, Keanu Reeves teamed up with director Francis Lawrence to bring one of DC Comics’ most interesting characters to the big screen. Unfortunately, the original Constantine was an underappreciated critical flop that didn’t exactly break the box office at just over $230m worldwide. Looking back on it now, it’s a darkly charming, moody gem that Reeves owns despite not really following the comics. Now, the supernatural exorcist is coming back for 2027’s Constantine 2.
Reeves and Lawrence have been trying to make a sequel for a decade, and have now reteamed with producer Akiva Goldsman to resurrect the Hellblazer in the DCU era. There’s not much known yet, other than the aim to hit a hard R-rating, and hopefully, we’ll learn more soon, given how exciting Reeves’ return to DC is.
7 Sonic The Hedgehog 4
After stealing the show with his voice role as Shadow the Hedgehog in third entry of the Sonic movie franchise, Reeves is officially set to return for Sonic The Hedgehog 4. Sonic 3’s post-credits scene confirmed his survival, and it’s usually the case that the cast grows in each sequel with the new character introduced in the last movie, so there’s not really a surprise here.
If Sonic 4 follows the same trend, we can expect Shadow to join Sonic’s team to take on Metal Sonic and the returning Doctor Robotnik, since Jim Carrey is also confirmed to return. Paramount has slated the sequel for a theatrical release on March 19, 2027.
6 Hidari
It’s increasingly rare to see true artistic craftsmanship like stop-motion in movies these days, despite LAIKA flying the flag of the medium high. But in the future, we have DC’s Dynamic Duo, and Keanu Reeves’ Hidari. The movie is billed as an original Japanese stop-motion animated samurai epic from Tokyo-based studio TECARAT and Dwarf Studios, and will be an homage to classic Japanese Edo-period cinema.
Reeves will play Jingoro Hidari, a legendary master sculptor whose true existence remains uncertain. The movie, which released the exceptional proof of concept video above, will use carved wooden puppets to tell the tale of Hidari’s battle against corrupted officials and rogue warriors across feudal Japan. As an interesting side note, it’s Reeves’ first time working on a Japanese production.
5 BRZRKR
As if being an actor and genuine rock star weren’t enough, back in 2020, Reeves released his first comic as co-creator, BRZRKR, alongside co-writer Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney. The BOOM! Studios comic is a brutal riff on Wolverine, as the lead hero - an immortal warrior called B - seeks to uncover his past while working black ops missions. A year later, Netflix picked up the rights to a live-action movie and anime, and Justin Lin was announced to direct the movie in 2025.
Reeves will star as B, which is convenient because they literally share the same face in the comics. Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin is behind the scenes, which is a great mark of quality, and there’s a real chance that BRKZKR could be Reeves’ replacement franchise for when John Wick runs out of steam.
4 Shiver
After leaving The Matrix franchise behind (presumably), Reeves is stepping back into high-concept sci-fi with Shiver, a survival mash-up that from director Tim Miller. In a genius move, Reeves marketed the 2027 project with just five words, and made it sound incredibly exciting instantly: "Sharks. Time machine. Groundhog Day."
Miller guarantees fast-paced action, and Matthew Vaughn’s stamp of approval from the producer’s chair means we can expect a wild ride. According to THR’s initial report, Shiver reportedly follows Reeves’ smuggler who is caught in the middle of a deadly double-cross during a job in the Caribbean Sea. There’s another wrinkle too, which is where the sci-fi element comes in: surrounded by bodies, hostile mercenaries and sharks, he finds he’s trapped in a deathly time loop he must break to survive. There’s no release date beyond the 2027 aim so far, but details shouldn’t take too long to arrive.
3 The Entertainment System Is Down
Most of what Reeves is working on fits together in a fairly logical thread of action and blockbuster IP, but The Entertainment System Is Down stands out as a bit of an anomaly and speaks to his drive to still do weird things. From two-time Palme d'Or winning director Ruben Östlund (Triangle of Sadness), the dark satire is pitched as a take on Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, as the passengers of a long-haul international flight must contend with the loss of the onboard entertainment systems. Hence the rather on-the-nose title.
As they’re forced to endure their journeys without distraction, the passengers and crew descend into outright chaotic boredom. Alongside Reeves, the stacked cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Samantha Morton, Nicholas Braun, Tobias Menzies, and Julie Delpy. It's an A24 property, and sounds like a festival circuit darling in the making, which is what makes it so intriguing. It's already filmed, so 2027 looks likely.
2 Untitled LEGO Movie
Having played Duke Kaboom in Toy Story 4 and briefly in its sequel, Reeves is set to collaborate with one of the only toy brands that could possibly compete with Pixar’s behemoth franchise: LEGO. After Universal picked up the lapsed LEGO movie rights from Warner Bros, the studio called upon Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley and Reeves to bring the toys back to the big screen.
Details are limited right now, including a title, but Cooley is a big hire, and the prospect of a live-action animation mix suggests they’ll hopefully be aiming for the same crowd who loved Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s 2014 masterpiece. Even with limited details, the combination of talent and LEGO’s magic is still a huge draw.
1 John Wick 5
Credit: MovieStillsDBAfter John Wick: Chapter 4’s ending, the future for John Wick didn’t exactly look rosy. Reeves’ iconic assassin was apparently dead, killed by Donnie Yen’s fellow killer, Caine and buried in a grave next to his wife. Lionsgate promised that the flagship franchise would continue, of course, with spinoffs and expanded lore - including Caine’s own movie - but the movie series simply isn’t as appealing without the title antihero.
There was always supposed to be a fifth entry, which was intended to shoot back-to-back, but director Chad Stahelski, but he changed those plans and retooled Chapter 4’s ending to kill Wick off. Still, Lionsgate were so impressed with the box office haul that after rampant speculation, it was confirmed that both Stahelski and Keanu Reeves are returning for John Wick 5.
Rather than a direct continuation, Stahelski has confirmed that 5 will be “really different,” which is a big selling point. He told Empire, “The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up. So the only way to do a [fifth film] is to have a new story that involves John Wick. It’s not a continuation with the High Table. John dealt with his grief. It will be really different, and everybody [will] see the trailer and go, ‘Holy fuck… I gotta see that.’”
Whether the upcoming movie will undo John’s death and reveal he’s gone underground to relcaim some peace or not, the sales pitch is certainly intriguing.
