While video game adaptations are nothing new in television and film, it feels like it has become the hot thing in recent years. Part of that might be due to the overwhelmingly positive reaction to HBO's The Last of Us, at least the first season. Now we have Zach Cregger's Resident Evil movie also being well-received by critics and fans alike. Ubisoft and FX are trying to get in on the action with their adaptation of the Far Cry games, which just added even more cast members to a list that includes Steve Buscemi.

As reported by Variety, five new faces have been added to the Far Cry cast. They are Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin, In Bruges), Hamish Linklater (from this year's Emmy darling Widow's Bay), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Sam Spruell (from FX's Alien: Earth), and Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag, The Roses). Alongside Buscemi, they'll also join the previously announced Rob McElhenney (credited as Rob Mac) and Lizzy Caplan. Mac will also be a co-creator on the series alongside Noah Hawley, who has become a darling at FX with shows like Legion, Fargo, and Alien: Earth.

What will FX's Far Cry show be about?

The show will be based on Ubisoft's series, which first released in 2004. No official plot details have been shared so far and there is no telling whether it will adapt any of the games or not. What has been confirmed is that Ubisoft and FX hope the show will run for multiple seasons and are planning an anthology format with each season following a different story and cast.

Far Cry was previously adapted into a 2008 direct-to-video movie that I'm pretty sure maybe ten people have seen. More recently, Netflix released the animated series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix in 2023, which was inspired by the standalone Far Cry 3 DLC, Blood Dragon. Ubisoft previously tried to adapt Assassin's Creed to film in 2016 with Michael Fassbender in the lead role, but that crashed and burned pretty hard. Hopefully, Far Cry will fare better.
