Flash's New Costume Is a Gift to DC Cosplayers

On September 2, 2026, DC Comics released Batman / Superman / Weird Al: World's Weirdest #1, a one-shot special that saw the World’s Finest join forces with the legendary "Weird Al" Yankovic to combat a mysterious affliction plaguing the Fifth Dimension, home of the fifth-dimensional imp Mr. Mxyzptlk, as well as Earth. The affliction causes everything it touches to become dull and ordinary. While Mr. Mxyzptlk initially turns to Superman and Batman for help, it soon becomes clear this is outside their expertise, prompting a team-up with Weird Al.

For those who are unfamiliar with Weird Al, he’s a real-life, best-selling comedy recording artist who is famous for writing and performing song parodies. What makes Batman / Superman / Weird Al: World's Weirdest even more iconic is that Weird Al didn’t just appear within the pages of the issue, but also helped write it alongside writers Mark Waid and Tyrone Finch, with art by Dan Schoening, Fico Ossio, and Luis Antonio Delgado.

With Weird Al contributing to the story, it became one of the most fun and bizarre DC stories in recent memory. However, it notably also delivered some of the DC Universe’s most radical redesigns of iconic characters, and among those to get a new look was none other than the Fastest Man Alive, the Flash.

As previously mentioned, Batman / Superman / Weird Al: World's Weirdest #1 sees Earth hit by a mysterious affliction that turns everything dull and ordinary. One of the main consequences of this plague of boring is that it “normalizes” DC’s characters, reimagining what they might be like if they were just normal people rather than the heroes and villains that fans know and love. This “normalization” strips the characters of their powers and swaps their iconic costumes for more casual, everyday clothes.

This “mundanity wave” hits characters ranging from the Joker to Green Lantern John Stewart, as well as many others, including Barry Allen’s Flash. After getting “normalized,” Barry is pictured wearing a simple white T-shirt with the Flash logo on the chest, paired with a matching red-and-yellow sweatsuit. He's also pictured extremely out of breath from running, confirming that he has not only received a costume downgrade but is also without his powers. This loss of powers is confirmed when Mr. M says, “The Flash! Fastest Man Alive, if by alive you mean on his local pickleball team.”

While this is a costume downgrade for Barry, it also offers epic cosplay inspiration for Flash fans: a radically different look for the Scarlet Speedster that's relatively low-cost and easy to replicate. With this look, fans only need to find a Flash T-shirt, available at virtually any fandom shop, and pair it with a red-and-yellow sweatsuit.

Not everyone looks great in a red, skin-tight spandex suit, and not everyone feels comfortable wearing one. This tracksuit, however, is something most fans would feel comfortable wearing while still remaining instantly recognizable as the character they are dressing up as. And while there are plenty of instances of cosplayers giving casual twists to their favorite heroes and villains, Batman / Superman / Weird Al: World's Weirdest makes this look part of official canon, making it a 10/10 Flash cosplay inspiration find.
