Fortnite's Spooky Month Kicks off With Five Nights at Freddy's Crossover

October is shaping up to be a fun month for Fortnite fans

Fortnite has an annual Halloween event called Fortnitemares, and it is one reason many players look forward to the month of October in-game. The event usually consists of crossovers with horror franchises, spooky makeovers to Battle Royale POIs, and limited-time items, like the Pumpkin Launcher and candy. This year's Fortnitemares hasn't even begun, and fans are already on the edge of their seats for its first collab: Five Nights at Freddy's.

There are all sorts of creator-made maps in Fortnite, including horror games. Many of these popular horror maps are based on Five Nights at Freddy's, a game where the character must survive a night in a pizzeria with blood-hungry animatronic animals. FNAF became an internet sensation, gathering thousands of players and racking up millions of views for content creators around the world. Given Fortnite's cartoon designs and goofy-slash-creepy characters, like Cuddle Team Leader and Megg, many fans thought Five Nights at Freddy's animatronics would be the perfect fit for Battle Royale. They've been asking for the collab for years, and it seems that it is finally happening.

Five Nights at Freddy's comes to Fortnite this Halloween

On Sept. 27, Fortnite unveiled its collab with Five Nights at Freddy's and revealed that it would kick off with the launch of the Fortnitemares update. The announcement trailer showed Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria POI and FNAF characters, namely Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy. These characters will be found at the pizzeria, and players must keep an eye on them to avoid being eliminated. It seems that players will also be able to take over the animatronics' bodies if they sneak up to them from behind. Additionally, many of these characters are expected to become available as skins in the Item Shop. Hopefully, this won't be a Battle Royale-exclusive event, and fans will finally get an official Five Nights at Freddy's map in Creative mode.

This collaboration was already highly anticipated, but it seems that it might be bigger than previously expected, as it is currently Fortnite's most liked post of all time on X. Within an hour of being posted, it had reached 100,000 likes. Since then, it has continued to attract the attention of even more fans. Thankfully, they won't have to wait long as Fortnitemares begins Thursday, Oct. 1.

This will be the third update in Chapter 7 Season 4. Downtime is expected to begin at 4 AM ET, and leaks should start flowing a few minutes thereafter. Once it's over and servers come back up, players will be able to jump back into Fortnite and begin spooky season celebrations.
