Isaac Asimov's iconic sci-fi masterpiece, Foundation, has seen a refreshing wave of renewed interest ever since the Apple TV series brought the story to life on screen. The show has managed to adapt the source material's incredible scale without sacrificing the deeply human qualities of some of its most important characters.

While the series takes considerable liberties with Asimov's original story, its interpretations of figures like Seldon, Gaal Dornick, Salvor Hardin, and Eto Demerzel preserve much of what made them compelling in the novels while giving them more substantial roles. Further, additions such as Lee Pace's role as Empire feel almost essential for an on-screen adaptation of Foundation, while Demerzel has become one of the show's most fascinating adaptations, expanding a character whose importance stretches far beyond the original Foundation trilogy.

While Foundation's fourth season on Apple TV has yet to narrow down a specific date at this point, the franchise will officially return with a new season this month (via X).

Foundation makes an official return this month thanks to a brand-new, long-awaited Season 2 launch for Galactic Frontier. According to the game's massive July 2026 developer update info dump, the core development work on Season 2 is done, with the update entering a period of large-scale testing. The developers explained that the amount of new content involved means additional time is still needed for balancing, adjustments and optimization before Season 2 can be rolled out more broadly.

That said, the current plan is to introduce Season 2 to Servers 1001 through 1016 first during August 2026, so some players will have access this month. Rather than immediately releasing it across every server, developer FunPlus intends to treat that initial launch as a testing period, gathering player feedback before confirming a schedule for the wider rollout.

This follows several changes to Season 2's previously announced release window, but the latest update indicates that development itself is substantially further along than before and a widescale release is imminent.

Season 2 also forms part of a larger slate of additions planned for Galactic Frontier, with p\other features currently in development including Commerce Guild Ruins and the Shadowfront League, while the developers have paused work on Boss Rush to prioritize making the game's tower-defense mode a permanent feature. Meanwhile, United Frontline, the game's large-scale PvE event, has reportedly reached its final polishing phase and is more or less ready to go.

For the uninitiated, Foundation: Galactic Frontier is a free-to-play sci-fi strategy game from FunPlus based on Isaac Asimov's Foundation universe and officially licensed in connection with the Apple TV adaptation. Players take the role of a space trader, building fleets, recruiting champions, and participating in large-scale battles while navigating a galaxy shaped by the decline of the Galactic Empire.

The game received its global launch on October 21, 2025, releasing on iOS, Android and PC, with Mac support available on Apple Silicon. FunPlus subsequently announced a Steam version in January 2026, and you can try it for free now.
