Georgia Love makes the closure of seven bars in Hobart all about her in shocking tone-deaf post: 'The effect of me leaving has officially hit'

Georgia Love has raised eyebrows for posting a tasteless joke following reports that several bars and restaurants have closed down in her former hometown of Hobart.

On Monday, news hit that seven of Tasmania's most well-known establishments had suddenly closed down after the hospitality group managing them had collapsed into voluntary administration - leaving scores of workers jobless.

Rising costs and changing customer behaviour have been cited as the reason for the closures.

Melbourne-based Georgia, who worked as a news reporter in Hobart a decade ago, has since managed to find light in the devastating news, joking that her absence was the reason the bars went under.

'It may have taken 10 years (almost to the day) but the effect of me leaving Hobart has officially hit [crying emoji, broken heart emoji],' the 36-year-old wrote next to a news article.

She followed up with a throwback photo of herself partying wildly at Cargo - one of the clubs that has shut down - alongside the caption: 'Look, I'm not saying my drunken antics 4x a week in 2014-2016 alone kept Cargo in business. Oh wait. Yes I am.'

Meanwhile, Hobart workers continue to reel from the news, with local DJ Brittney McNeil telling ABC: 'It's a very big blow to not just people that go out but the security, bar staff, DJs, musicians and anyone else that works in the hospitality industry.'

Meanwhile, the hospitality group’s director Ian Vaughan told The Mercury that the situation was 'deeply disappointing'.

Georgia's questionable commentary comes weeks after she announced her new gig as a newsreader for ARN's new program The Long Weekend, opposite Eddie McGuire.

The show also previously starred Karl Stefanovic, but he was recently booted following his exit from Channel Nine's Today show amid the fallout from his podcast interview with Tommy Robinson.

The program airs on Gold across the country from 12-3pm on Friday, and streams on 9Now and Stan

After announcing her exciting new job, many of Georgia's famous followers took to the comments section to congratulate her - including her ex-husband Lee Elliott.

'So truly incredible not to mention unbelievably well-deserved!!' Lee wrote.

'Wow, so you should be,' added Gogglebox Australia star Isabelle Silberry.

Lee, 43, and Georgia, who first met on the 2016 season of The Bachelorette, announced their separation with identical posts to Instagram in February 2025.

'After nine wonderful years together, including four as husband and wife, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to lovingly part ways,' they wrote.

'Our relationship has been so special, and we will always cherish the memories, love, and laughter we've shared.

'There is no drama, no bad blood. Just two people who have grown in different directions while still holding deep respect and care for each other.

'We remain friends, and we'd really appreciate our privacy as we navigate this next stage. Thank you.'
