Before his two upcoming cinematic events arrive, Godzilla prepares to fight one of his most powerful opponents. Takashi Yamazaki just debuted his highly anticipated Toho sequel, Godzilla Minus Zero, at the New York Film Festival to enthusiastic initial reactions. Like its predecessor, Godzilla Minus Zero promises a bleak human perspective on war trauma and survival. Concurrently, buzz for the 2027 MonsterVerse entry Godzilla x Kong: Supernova has kicked into gear with the two titans getting ready to star in their biggest cinematic event to date.
Throughout seven decades of lore, Godzilla has survived cataclysmic confrontations with organic and inorganic monsters that have given pop culture's most unstoppable kaiju a run for his money. Godzilla: Final Wars pitted the King of the Monsters against Monster X in the ruins of Tokyo, which culminated in an immense explosion of energy. Similarly, the Heisei era reached an agonizing peak during Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, where a melting, superheated version of the titan endured horrific lacerations from a demon born of the Oxygen Destroyer. Legendary's MonsterVerse entries match this historical severity have continuously raised the bar, as evidenced by Godzilla's ferocious neon-lit brawl against Mechagodzilla in Hong Kong.
Godzilla is powerful enough to humiliate a whole universe filled with godlike superheroes and supervillains, but there's one divine being that gives the King of the Monsters one of his greatest battles.

Godzilla has defied the odds against one of the most powerful teams in Marvel history, the Avengers of Doom, who had a member who could resurrect any fallen hero and a member who could wind back time to a previous checkpoint. With Doctor Doom, Ghost Rider, and Kang the Conqueror gone, Miles Morales ends up being the team's final survivor after he activates Kang's time travel device and arrives in the era of the Avengers 1,000,000 BC. Odin welcomes Miles and reveals that he has already fought Godzilla, whom the Allfather describes as "a force of nature" who has "always been a part of Earth."
Godzilla has overpowered virtually all heroes and villains in the Marvel Universe, including powerhouses like Galactus, the Silver Surfer, and the Hulk. The King of the Monsters has shaken off blasts from Black Bolt and returned from the farthest corners of space. In fact, Godzilla has already defeated Odin himself in the present day, as evidenced by Odin's presence in Knull's Garden of Crowns. All this only puts Odin's prime power into perspective. One million years ago, a musclebound Odin was able to fight a younger Godzilla one-on-one and live to tell the tale.
Godzilla Fills A Significant Void In The Marvel Universe
No Marvel Character Embodies The Indomitability Of Nature Like Godzilla
Godzilla’s conquest of the Marvel multiverse highlights Marvel's absence of a truly ancient and invincible personification of Earth's natural wrath. While behemoths like Fin Fang Foom and Giganto exist, Marvel's resident kaijus are usually simple alien invaders or mind-controlled beasts that serve as mere plot devices instead of true forces of nature. Similarly to Godzilla, Galactus embodies the unstoppable and chaotic nature of the universe, but the Devourer of Worlds fills the role of Marvel's main cosmic-horror nightmare rather than the avatar of Mother Nature. Albeit temporarily, Godzilla is the one Marvel antagonist who brings the wrath of nature upon Earth like a living earthquake.
Marvel's mainline comic continuity wouldn't allow Godzilla to overwhelm all superpowered teams and individuals, however. Outside strict canonical boundaries, Gerry Duggan, Javier Garrón, and Ig Guara's series of Godzilla and Marvel crossovers make the King of the Monsters an uncontainable catastrophe that defies classic comic book solutions. Neither heavy artillery, cosmic magic, nor Earth's Mightiest Heroes can subdue Gojira's atomic power. So, in the end, Godzilla's ambiguous canon status as a proven threat to the Marvel multiverse that likely won't be acknowledged explicitly afterward ends up allowing Godzilla to showcase his full power without having to be nerfed in order to be integrated into long-term canon.
