GTA 6 Will Get Multiplayer After All, According to Twitch CEO

A perhaps unintended revelation teases that GTA 6 will get multiplayer soon after release

Among the many questions still surrounding the most-hyped game of the decade, Grand Theft Auto 6, the one at the forefront of fans' minds is whether they'll be able to play Rockstar's upcoming Florida life-simulation game with their friends. In June, when Rockstar shared GTA 6's pricing and preorder details, the company emphasized that the game is a "single-player experience." But given how much money GTA Online still makes for them, few people doubt that some form of multiplayer experience will come to the new game too.

Confirmation of multiplayer for GTA 6 apparently came from an unlikely source. During an interview with Bloomberg, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy discussed GTA 6 at length. In the process, he also revealed that Rockstar will launch the game's multiplayer "next year."

In the interview, Clancy said he spent "a lot of time" talking with Rockstar about how to best engage the creators using Twitch as a platform. The CEO stated the obvious when he mentioned that Twitch will see a big bump in viewership when GTA 6 launches, but he also added that there will be "an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer."

It's unclear if Clancy made a mistake by revealing something he wasn't supposed to, but the timing is quite interesting, if vague. GTA 6 will launch on Nov. 19, 2026, so if Clancy's statement holds true, multiplayer could be coming as early as two months later, in January 2027. GTA Online was released only two weeks after GTA 5, whereas multiplayer for Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived seven months later. In any case, Rockstar ending support for the existing GTA Online sounds very unlikely at this time.

The developer has not yet issued a statement regarding Clancy's reveal. Meanwhile, GTA 6 will be getting a physical release after all, in the form of a vinyl and CD soundtrack, dropping on the same day as the game.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on Nov. 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
