Despite its star-fronted nature and Ritchie's signature flair on the directing seat, In The Grey only brought in $27.8 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run. With a reported $70 million budget, In The Grey needed to finish in the $140 million to $175 million range just to break even. It fell incredibly short of that margin, becoming a box office bomb. However, after not having much momentum at the box office, In The Grey's streaming success on Starz redeems it.

In The Grey's streaming success could also not have come at a better time for Ritchie. It joins The Gentlemen season 2, which was released on Netflix on September 3, to create a positive streak for the director right before one of his biggest streaming projects comes back. That would be MobLand season 2, which arrives on Paramount+ this Friday, September 18. Ritchie serves as both a director and executive producer on the crime thriller series that stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. In The Grey's streaming success helps keep Ritchie's name in a positive light, leading to MobLand's highly-anticipated return.
