If you've ever thought your Google Calendar view could do with an extra splash of color, then you're in luck.

The company has revealed a major expansion to the customization options available for its calendar app, allowing users to paint a rainbow of color to help define their day and mark out important events.

In fact, Google Calendar will now offer up to 200 custom colors for individual events - a huge increase from the current 11 on offer.

More customization for Google Calendar

In a Google Workspace updates blog post announcing the news, the company noted it was fulfilling "a long-standing feature request from both business and personal users for more customizable options".

Moving beyond its current "limitation" of 11 predefined colors for events, the company says the move will provides much deeper personalization for all users.

Users will be able to select from 24 default colors as part of the expanded color palette, with a full RGB color picker providing access to up to 200 custom colors for individual events via both the native web and mobile apps, as well as the Calendar API.

The feature is rolling out to all Google Workspace customers now, as well as Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts, with a full deployment set to take a few weeks.

It will be on by default and can be customized by the user, with no admin controls required.

The news is the latest update to Google Calendar as the company looks to make it more helpful for users.

This includes a new Gemini feature which can offer "suggested times" based around the participant's availability - offering up a number of suggestions based around everyone's working hours and potential conflicts, and then you can review and pick the best slot for everyone.

Google's calendar app will also now allow users to block out chunks of their day to focus on a specific task, similar to how it displays meeting slots - users can add in details of the task that needs doing, and customize visibility and do not disturb settings to ensure they get their work done.
