Indiana Jones Meets Mission: Impossible In Prime Video's 18-Part Conspiracy Series

If Indiana Jones and Mission: Impossible are your vibe, Prime Video has something exceptional to offer for your next binge. Naturally, both these action film franchises feature a mutual offering—nostalgia. That over-the-top, get-your-heart-pumping excitement just doesn't come around as often as it used to, especially as the entertainment landscape has shifted more toward realism. Movies and TV shows try to be more directly heavy-hitting these days, but there's something great about a story that falls only just short of being too much.

In the case of Indiana Jones, we see this through each impossible feat, strange, fantastical shock, and twist. Harrison Ford is an action hero to his core, and pairing this with Indy's sharp intellectualism was the cherry on top. There's also just something thrilling about the idea of dangers associated with the secrets of the past. The forgotten places of the planet became viewers' playground in Indiana Jones, and it was simply delicious.

Mission: Impossible is pretty different on the surface level, but there's a similar appeal here. Tom Cruise is every bit the action legend Ford is, and this is another film franchise that capitalizes on our shared fascination with the world's biggest secrets. Still, Mission: Impossible is a spy thriller through and through. It leans heavily into the excitement of careful heists and covert teams—a formula we could never tire of. While it doesn't get much better than this, Prime Video's Hunters may combine the best of both worlds here.

Hunters Is An Underrated Series For Prime Video

It's perfectly possible that Prime Video's Hunters went under your radar. This TV series had the bad luck of premiering in 2020, while the entertainment industry and wider world were adapting to COVID-19-related shutdowns. It's for this reason that Hunters has only two seasons and 18 episodes in total. Still, the circumstances of the conspiracy thriller's cancellation meant that the ending in season 2 was planned for. So, this show is an easy binge that delivers the sort of flavor Indiana Jones and Mission: Impossible made us fall in love with.

Hunters is an alternate-history action-conspiracy thriller set in 1977 New York City. The story revolves around a group of Nazi hunters who work covertly to stop escaped German officers attempting to create a Fourth Reich in the United States. This premise makes it easy enough to guess at the parallels with Indiana Jones, as Hunters similarly centers on pulp historical lore, tackling myths and relics of 20th-century wartime. Then, there is that Mission: Impossible influence. The titular Hunters is a crew of underground ragtag specialists, each of whom contributes their own special skills of deception to get the job done.

Naturally, Hunters comes with larger-than-life evil and elaborate infiltrations. It's all high-risk cognitive and physical battles against ruthless syndicates rooted in the real world's most infamous group of villains. Suffice it to say, getting through 18 approximately hour-long episodes of Nazi-hunting thrills will more than hit the spot left by nostalgic predecessors.

Hunters Features A Typically Great Performance From Al Pacino

Speaking of nostalgia, it's entirely worth mentioning that among the talented cast of Hunters is actor Al Pacino. This is among his very few television roles, adding further to the value of this Prime Video series. Known for The Godfather, Dick Tracy, The Irishman, Heat, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and much, much more, Pacino plays Meyer Offerman in Hunters, the founder and leader of the titular team.

Rather predictably, Pacino is a clear highlight of Hunters. With those Indiana Jones and Mission: Impossible flavors, this Prime Video series will naturally appeal to viewers with a rather specific sort of palate. However, with a star like Pacino sitting alongside Logan Lerman and Jerrika Hinton, the quality threshold is immediately raised. It's not his typical sort of role, in a variety of ways, but that makes Pacino's place in Hunters that much more special. If for nothing else, this star should provide more than enough reason to binge this underrated Prime Video gem.
