Kim Kardashian "Wasn't Ready to Open Up" Before Lewis Hamilton Romance
Pete Davidson Reveals Where He Stands With Exes Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian wasn't interested in keeping up with anyone else for a while.
Four months after the Kardashians star hard launched her romance with Lewis Hamilton, she shared insight into not dating for years beforehand.
"I was really single for five years," Kardashian told The Times in an interview published Oct. 3. "That felt great. I could focus on my kids and projects that I really wanted to be involved with. I really felt no rush."
The reality star emphasized that she didn't "feel empty" after her 2021 breakup from ex Kanye "Ye" West—with whom she shares kids North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7. (The couple finalized their divorce in 2022.)
"I felt like I needed my time," she explained. "I wanted to completely heal and just work on myself. I wasn't ready to open up. I really wasn't even thinking about it. The universe works in your favor when you just allow it to."
Although the SKIMS founder has continued to embrace her romance with the Formula 1 driver in the public eye—including glimpses into romantic getaways in Paris, bike rides in New York City and family tropical vacations—she has yet to speak publicly about their bond.
As she put it, "In the most respectful way, I'd probably rather not."
Kardashian's ex Pete Davidson—whom she dated for nine months until splitting in 2022—understands why she has kept some of her relationship close to her chest. After all, he had to navigate West's wrath while also struggling with being thrust into a new kind of spotlight.
"What tripped me out is I was super open about mental stuff—everyone knows this about me—and it's like he was [saying], 'Kill yourself,'" he told Variety in September. "And he did push me."

The Saturday Night Live alum—who has been candid about his mental health problems and sobriety journey—jokingly said he did Kardashian a favor by being the first person to date her after her and West's breakup.
"I like to think I got that one out of the way for her because whoever that guy was going to be was gonna get it," he added. "I cleared the path for her to get back into the dating pool."
As for where the exes stand now?
"We're cool," Davidson—dad to 9-month-old daughter Scottie Rose with ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt—said. "I have a lot of love for her, and I knew what I was getting into."
