The Monsterverse is officially adding another major Game of Thrones villain star.
Charles Dance, who played the iconic Game of Thrones villain Tywin Lannister, previously appeared in the franchise's 2019 movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters, where he played eco-terrorist leader Alan Jonah. Since then, the universe has expanded with more movies, the Netflix animated series Skull Island, and Apple TV's live-action television show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
According to Deadline, Pilou Asbaek has now been cast in Apple TV's upcoming Monsterverse prequel series centered on young Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell). Asbaek previously played the villainous Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones season 6, 7, and 8. His new role remains under wraps, as does the other new addition to the cast, Millie Brady. It has also been confirmed that J.D. Dillard will direct the pilot episode.
Legacy of Monsters follows the Monarch organization and Shaw in two timelines, with Wyatt Russell playing the younger version of the character and the actor's real-life father Kurt Russell playing the older version. Apple TV's untitled prequel sees young Shaw going on a secret mission in 1984 to stop the Soviet Union from releasing a formidable Titan who can destroy the United States of America and alter the direction of the Cold War.
As a newcomer to the cast, Asbaek is known for playing Game of Thrones' ruthless and erratic Euron, who became a powerful ally to Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) in the HBO show's final seasons. The Monsterverse prequel will not be the actor's first Apple TV series, though, as he played the Mule in season 3 of the streamer's hit science-fiction show Foundation, which was renewed for a fourth season.
