While other magical practitioners have displayed their unique abilities in the role, including the Scarlet Witch herself, Stephen Strange has always retained his status as the most skilled Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel Universe. Doctor Strange rarely succumbs to the corruptive temptations of dark magic or buckles under the exhausting psychological toll of his duties. Strange manages to accomplish the impossible on a regular basis, successfully outsmarting and overpowering all kinds of adversaries, from demons to cosmic entities to ancient gods to Earthly threats that overshadow the Avengers. The new era of Marvel's Mangaverse stories begins thanks almost entirely to Doctor Strange, who sacrifices his life using the Eye of Agamotto to stop reality from clashing and merging with the Negative Zone. In doing so, Strange's spell causes all technology to stop working, and in its place, the forces of Mana and Technomancy start ruling the world. Although Doctor Strange is unlikely to return, at least in his original form, everything that happens in this timeline comes directly from his heroic actions. The Marvel Mangaverse's Doctor Strange seems to be one of the most powerful and experienced versions of the Sorcerer Supreme in Marvel Comics history, able to handle the clash between two dimensions and create a new version of reality all by himself. While performing his final spell with the Eye of Agamotto, Strange is also shown standing over a multitude of Yokai and cosmic entities, which appear to include Surtur and Eternity, and his actions lead to the birth of the Marvel Mangaverse's Vision, a prophecy of an impending apocalypse, seemingly accelerated by Miles Morales a.k.a. the Scarlet Spider.

The Classic Avengers Make Room For New Protagonists

Doctor Strange's spell makes him the spiritual creator of the new Marvel Mangaverse, and Miles Morales' decision to kill Laura Kinney aka Weapon X-Tremis and transform into the Scarlet Spider appears to make him its destroyer. Meanwhile, Vision is an abstract concept that forebodes the beginning of the end, while Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy are shown in flashbacks, rescuing Miles and dying in his arms, respectively. Illyana Rasputin is Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Blood #1's third protagonist, serving as the Mana counterpoint to Laura Kinney's Technomancer philosophy, while Colossus, Juggernaut, and Man-Thing appear as Yokai characters that can be summoned for support.

These characters' key roles in the Marvel Mangaverse contrast with the introduction of the original Avengers, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man, who make their debut as robots controlled by Nick Fury a.k.a. the Spymaster Supreme, who uses his "Ultimate Avengers" as a personal army. The Ultimate Avengers are no different from other fully robotic characters like Ultorn, who also seems to lack his free will in this continuity.
