For the past two decades, Marvel Comics fans have had one major and reliable option for reading the company's library of comic books: Marvel Unlimited. That era will soon come to an end, as Marvel announced this week that it plans to retire the Marvel Unlimited app in December and replace it with a new option from an established digital comics provider.

Marvel says that current Marvel Unlimited members will be able to import their existing library and reading history to the new Marvel Comics app, but (unsurprisingly) the changeover has raised concerns among subscribers. For some, the switch to a new Marvel Comics app is great news.

What's happening with Marvel Unlimited?

Marvel plans to "sunset" Marvel Unlimited on Dec. 7. That's the last day that new content will be added to Marvel Unlimited. Marvel plans to completely remove the app on Dec. 28.

Prior to those dates, Marvel and Webtoon will launch a new Marvel Comics app on Nov. 16. The new Marvel Comics app promises to give readers access to more than 35,000 issues from Marvel Comics history and has been "rebuilt from the ground up for an even better reading experience." Marvel Unlimited subscribers will likely be happy about the latter part of that promise, as the existing app has ample room for improvement.

Marvel Unlimited subscribers will be able to import their libraries to the new Marvel Comics app following its launch on Nov. 16.

Marvel says that existing payment information on file with Unlimited will not be shared with Webtoon. Current Marvel Unlimited subscribers will need to start a new subscription with Webtoon on the Marvel Comics app. Active Marvel Unlimited subscriptions will be eligible for an automated, prorated refund for the remainder of their unused subscription term on or around Nov. 16, Marvel says.

What is Webtoon?

Webtoon, which will manage the new Marvel Comics app, is a South Korea-based company that launched its digital comics reader globally in 2014. Owned by the Naver Corporation, Webtoon was originally a home to independently created digital comics, but soon expanded with multiple partnerships, including deals with Archie Comics, Dark Horse, DC, Marvel, Dropout, and Ubisoft, among many others.

In September 2025, the Walt Disney Corporation acquired 2% of Webtoon, with plans to bring Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios comics to the platform. With the launch of Webtoon's Marvel Comics app, the transition from Marvel Unlimited to a new, dedicated platform will be complete. Webtoon and Marvel plan to bring Disney, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios comics content to the Marvel Comics app in the coming months.

A base subscription to Webtoon's new Marvel Comics app costs $9.99 per month or $69.99 per year, and readers will get new issues as soon as three months after print. The app's Ultimate tier costs $12.49 per month or $99.99 per year, and offers new issues as early as one month after print. Founder Member pricing, a limited-time offer, costs $59.99 for the first year of the Ultimate annual plan. That offer will be available for pre-registration at marvel.webtoon.com and on site at New York Comic Con 2026.
