Marvel Animation’s upcoming Black Panther anthology series Eyes of Wakanda, from showrunner and director Todd Harris and executive producer Ryan Coogler, just premiered its first-look teaser trailer, and announced a new release date: August 27.
The four-episode animated series explores the life and times of brave Wakandan warriors through the ages. Heroes of Wakanda’s Hatut Zaraze from each era will be shown on dangerous missions to retrieve vibranium artifacts from Wakandan enemies. In the first teaser, we get a glimpse of a previous iteration of the Dora Milaje, a battle with a legion of pirates, and an older version of the nanotechnology that allows Black Panther’s suit to absorb and release kinetic energy.
Per Variety, the series’ first episode premiered at the Annecy Animation Festival in France on Jun. 9, where Harris shed some light on what viewers can expect from the show. Each 30-minute episode will showcase a different artifact being stolen, and the ripple effect caused by disgraced former Dora Milaje member Noni (Winnie Harlow) encountering former Wakandan guard “Lion” (Cress Williams), who breaks off with an artifact to start their own empire. There’s also a teaser about a former Iron Fist making their debut in the series.
The voice cast includes Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Anika Noni Rose, and Steve Toussaint.
Initially delayed from a planned 2024 release, then slated for August 6, Eyes of Wakanda will now be released on Disney Plus on August 27.
