Metal Gear Solid Remake Teaser Leaves Fans Split, And We See Why

Telling the story of former Special Forces operative, Solid Snake, we follow him as he is pulled out of retirement to infiltrate Shadow Moses, a nuclear weapons facility that has been invaded by a unit under the command of Liquid Snake.

With praise for its narrative, gameplay, and revolutionary stealth mechanics, Metal Gear Solid was met with critical acclaim and swiftly bought the Metal Gear franchise into the spotlight more than ever before. Since 1998, multiple other installments in the Metal Gear series have been released, but there is no denying the cultural impact that Metal Gear Solid had.

So, that begs the question: is a Metal Gear Solid Remake on the cards? In an era where you cannot move from remakes and remasters, it seems strange that this hit Kojima game is yet to receive a modern-day remake. Although a remake titled Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, was released back in 2004 for the Game Cube, this is the only example.

However, whilst Konami has acknowledged the demand for a Metal Gear Solid Remake, it has not yet been confirmed, that has not stopped rumors and reports from running wild. That being said, according to Konami producer Noriaki Okamura, if a remake was to be developed, it would not be a 1:1 remake. On top of that, such a project would be "challenging" for the studio, although it still expresses an interest in doing so.

Fans Aren't Sure They Want The Classic Reimagined

However, over on r/metalgearsolid, fans recently discussed the potential of a Metal Gear Solid Remake, especially if it will not be a 1:1 copy of the original. Following the report by Okamura, they took to the comments to share their thoughts.

"I hope no one is expecting 1 to 1 considering the age," the top comment reads. "Twin Snakes wasn't even 1 to 1." Another said, "This is what I wanted to hear. This gives them the liberty to expand the game to be far bigger and grander than the original."

However, another user is feeling a bit more hopeful, adding, "I just hope it's a Metal Gear Solid remake and not a Twin Snakes remake.

Even if in many ways TS is more in-line with the rest of the franchise, MGS is just so so iconic, and they should do what they can to preserve the original tone. Agreed that expanding it wouldn't be amiss though. If I'm honest, I really just want a sequel to V. Never going to happen without Kojima though (nor should it, really). The best bet is a Metal Gear 1&2 remake with added content to serve roughly the same purpose, as well as being a prequel to MGS1."

As mentioned, nothing has been officially confirmed by Konami at the time of writing, and with Kojima no longer at the helm, the chance of a Metal Gear Solid Remake remains slim. However, crazier things have happened, so all we can do for now, is wait.
