The positive momentum extended into Tuesday’s early trading, with shares climbing an additional 12% to $13.15 before the opening bell. Despite this rally, the stock remains significantly below the $30 threshold it briefly achieved during May’s trading sessions.

The military has chosen Navitas to participate in the ALATTIS initiative. This acronym represents Accelerated, Large-Area, 10 kV SiC IGBT.

This initiative will support research and development of extremely high-voltage silicon carbide power electronics. The semiconductors in question are designed to handle 10,000 volts, substantially exceeding conventional power semiconductor specifications.

The Army Research Laboratory serves as the program’s sponsor. The initiative operates within the framework of the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command.

The semiconductor manufacturer prevailed over competing American silicon carbide firms to secure this award. Military officials cited the company’s advanced high-voltage capabilities and United States-based production facilities as decisive factors.

Military Objectives Behind the Partnership

The primary objective involves establishing and validating a domestically-based production workflow for these sophisticated semiconductors. The initiative encompasses design work, manufacturing processes, and comprehensive device validation.

Development efforts will focus on 10 kV silicon carbide insulated-gate bipolar transistors, commonly known as IGBTs. The scope also extends to complementary PiN diode technologies.

These components target deployment in critical military applications. The Joint Experimentation and Technology Accelerator has pledged support for this initiative.

Navitas has chosen not to reveal specific financial details regarding the agreement. The potential revenue impact remains undisclosed by company representatives.

Recent Challenges for the Semiconductor Firm

This military partnership emerges during a turbulent period for the company. Financial reports from earlier quarters revealed operating losses.

The firm has simultaneously navigated a contentious intellectual property conflict with competing semiconductor producer Wolfspeed (WOLF). This legal battle has negatively impacted market confidence.

Share prices had climbed beyond $30 during May as market participants anticipated substantial demand for power semiconductors supporting AI computing infrastructure. Values have declined considerably in subsequent months.

Siddarth Sundaresan, serving as Chief Technology Officer for Navitas, characterized the military award as a significant achievement for the firm’s ultra-high-voltage semiconductor initiatives. He referenced over two decades of accumulated expertise in this technological domain.

The firm’s GeneSiC silicon carbide product portfolio covers voltage ranges from 650 volts extending to 6.5 kilovolts. The company claims pioneering status for multiple product categories, including 6.5 kV thyristors launched in 2010.

Additional firsts include 10 to 15 kV PiN diodes released in 2012 and 6.5 kV silicon carbide MOSFETs introduced in 2021. These offerings constitute the foundation of its defense sector and industrial semiconductor operations.

Currently, market analysts continue to emphasize AI data center infrastructure demand as the primary catalyst for Navitas stock performance. This military contract establishes an additional revenue stream beyond existing commercial operations.
