Kratos will return. On Friday, God of War game director Cory Barlog confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con that PlayStation's Santa Monica Studio is developing another game in the action-adventure franchise that will star Kratos. IGN reports that Barlog said that Kratos' next game will be released after God of War Laufey, which is now officially coming in 2027.
Barlog, who serves as head of creative at Santa Monica Studio, reportedly did not elaborate on what's next for Kratos, but it will apparently tie directly into the events of God of War: Laufey. Faye's stand-alone adventure certainly offers some hints at what's to come. After tearing his way through the Greek pantheon and slaying various Norse gods, Kratos could be heading toward all-new mythologies, including Egyptian and Tibetan gods, if Laufey is anything to go by.
Kratos' most recent mainline adventure is 2022's God of War Ragnarök. Earlier this year, Sony Santa Monica and Mega Cat Studios released a prequel to the entire franchise, God of War Sons of Sparta, which featured a young Kratos as its playable lead. There's also a remake of the original God of War trilogy coming, though we have little info on that project.
God of War Laufey stars Laufey (aka Faye) on a journey to the afterlife of the gods, the Everywhen. There, she discovers the plans she put in place to protect Kratos and Atreus in her absence are now at risk, and she must fight the gods in her way to save the ones she loves. God of War Laufey now has a release date: It's coming to PS5 on Feb. 16, 2027.
