Hogwarts Legacy has already secured its legacy, so to speak, with massive sales and a sequel tease. But for a number of reasons, fans fell off after completing the game, mainly because it lacks true endgame content and multiplayer. It also doesn't take long to reach 100%, even for an open-world adventure.
A lot of those fans have modded tons of content into the game on PC, but others have moved on to other games. Now, there's a contender that's coming in early 2027, and it's one to watch, especially since it's been teased for nearly a decade. Just like Hogwarts Legacy, there's a bit of magic involved. Thanks to a new Steam update, we know exactly when this magical experience is coming.
In what will be one of the more ambitious games of 2027, Witchbrook is poised for release in just a few short months. Taking plce in Mossport, a seaside town, you'll be attending Witchbrook College in an attempt to master magic, including classes like Alchemy, Potions, Astrology, Rituals, Demon Hunting, and Tarot.
In addition to school, you can start a business using your uniquely witchy skills. Multiplayer for up to four people is included, along with romance/friendship systems and NPC schedules. There are also plenty of sidequests and ancillary activities, including seasonal events, bird watching, cooking contests, and a mindfulness mechanic for playing the game and relaxing.
Here's the full rundown from publisher Chucklefish:
"Discover magic and mystery in Witchbrook, a spellbinding witch life-sim for up to 4-players! Start your life as the newest resident witch in the bustling seaside town of Mossport. Make friends, find love, and discover a world filled with wonder and charm on the road to graduation and beyond."
Although it sounds great on paper, the game has just been delayed. In case you missed it, Witchbrook has been delayed until next year, and will now be out on January 28, 2027.
Here's the statement from the studio on the delay: "We have poured detail and care into every pixel to create a truly handcrafted experience. We can’t wait to open Witchbrook College’s grand doors to new students in January, and introduce you to the town and people of Mossport. Thank you for all of your support and patience, especially within the last year, while we took the additional time to make a game we’re truly proud of. We hope you’ll enjoy immersing yourself in our magical pixel art world as much as we’ve enjoyed making it."
As long as this final delay holds, it's going to be something else to see the fruits of nearly a decade of labor, especially for an open-ended game like this with tons of things to do.
Staggeringly, Witchbrook was originally called "Spellbound" and was teased in 2017. Then in 2018, it was renamed and has been teased ever since. It took us a long time to see firm gameplay, and now, nearly a decade later, it's finally coming to fruition, barring any future delays.
As a Hogwarts Legacy replacement, Witchbrook looks like a slam dunk, especially given that it has multiplayer support: a widely requested feature for Hogwarts.
