Paranormal Activity 8 brings us back to Katie and Micah's 2007 home
Image: Blumhouse ProductionsThe eighth installment in the Paranormal Activity series is set to release on May 21, 2027, 20 years after the original and six years after the last film in the franchise. Details about the plot are still unknown, but we learned at New York Comic Con that the movie will take fans back to Katie and Micah's house from the first movie.
As Jason Blum noted during Blumhouse's New York Comic Con panel, Paranormal Activity is a particularly emotional movie for him. It was what put Blumhouse on the map. Eventually, the production company opted to let the franchise go, as it had been overdone and bled dry. A few years later, when Atomic Monster's James Wan suggested making a new movie together, Blum was immediately on board.
What did Blumhouse reveal at New York Comic Con?
Image: Blumhouse Productions/Everett CollectionAs reported by various sources, the upcoming Paranormal Activity movie will be set in the same house as the first film. It seems unlikely that Micah and Katie will make an appearance in the movie since it has been nearly two decades since the original Paranormal Activity. However, they could return to haunt the place, as the two met an unfortunate end at the house. Original director Oren Peli is producing Paranormal Activity 8 alongside James Wan and Jason Blum. Undertone's Ian Tuason will take the lead as director.
This information wasn't the only Blumhouse reveal at New York Comic Con, as the studio's panel brought us more exciting horror movie news. Blum revealed that, with the original creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell involved, the upcoming Saw, directed by Wrong Turn's Mike P. Nelson, will feel quite different from recent entries in the franchise but closer to the original 2004 movie.
The company is also working with director Craig Zobel (The Hunt) to make a film adaptation of the horror comic book Something Is Killing the Children and director Mike Flanagan on The Exorcist: Martyrs, which got a trailer and hits theaters on March 12, 2027. We also learned that LaKeith Stanfield will star in a new movie called Molepeople, that Kristen Bell will appear as Ms. Klaus in Violent Night 2, and that MatPat is developing Amanda the Adventurer film with Blumhouse.
Lastly, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster shared the upcoming premiere schedule for their production. Five Nights at Freddy's 3 was absent from the schedule, suggesting its release date is still uncertain or likely beyond 2027. Obsession director Curry Barker's next movie, Anything But Ghosts, is slated for May 7, 2027, while a new Blair Witch Project movie will arrive on Sept. 24, 2027.
