Nvidia, Anthropic, Palantir CEOs to meet Trump for AI risks lunch

Three of the most powerful people in artificial intelligence are sitting down with the president over lunch to talk about the thing keeping Washington up at night: what happens when AI gets too smart, too fast.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and Palantir CEO Alex Karp are meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House to discuss AI risks, safeguards, and the perpetual tug-of-war between innovation and oversight. House Speaker Mike Johnson is also attending. They’re not the only tech heavyweights at the table, either. Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, and Greg Brockman are part of the gathering as well.

A private dinner before the main course

Amodei apparently got a head start. The Anthropic CEO dined privately with Trump on September 27 to discuss AI regulations and the escalating US-China tech competition.

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI model, has been one of the more vocal proponents of cautious AI development. Amodei has consistently argued that frontier AI systems require careful guardrails.

Trump has labeled AI extinction fears as a “hoax” and has generally favored policies that prioritize rapid development to maintain American dominance in the field. Jensen Huang has publicly echoed that sentiment, pushing back against calls to slow down AI progress.

The players and their stakes

Nvidia’s GPUs are the critical infrastructure underlying virtually every major AI model being trained today. Huang has every incentive to keep the pedal down on AI development, because every new model, every new data center, every new AI startup means more demand for his chips.

Anthropic develops frontier AI models and has positioned itself as the safety-conscious alternative to OpenAI. The Pentagon designated Anthropic as a supply chain risk in 2026 over concerns related to autonomous weapons and surveillance, which adds an extra layer of tension to any conversation about AI’s role in national security.

Palantir, led by Alex Karp, occupies the space where AI meets defense and enterprise operations. The company has deep ties to the US intelligence community and military.

The bigger picture

The US and China are locked in an AI capabilities race that shows no signs of cooling off. Export controls on advanced chips, restrictions on talent mobility, and competing national AI strategies have turned what was once a corporate competition into a full-blown geopolitical contest.

When Amodei argues for caution, the counterargument isn’t just “innovation matters.” It’s “China isn’t slowing down, and neither should we.” Trump has leaned heavily into that framing, and Huang has been a willing ally in making the case that American AI leadership requires speed, not speed bumps.

What to watch

For Palantir, the outcome matters less in terms of regulation and more in terms of government contracts. Karp’s company thrives when the government embraces AI integration, and a White House that views AI as a national security priority is a White House that keeps writing checks to Palantir.

Anthropic faces perhaps the most complex set of incentives. The company needs regulatory frameworks that validate its safety-first approach without being so restrictive that they strangle the frontier research Anthropic itself is conducting.

The presence of the House Speaker alongside the president suggests this meeting may carry more legislative weight than previous AI summits. Investors parsing the aftermath should pay close attention to any language around export controls, compute governance, and model evaluation standards — the specific policy levers that would most directly affect the companies represented at this table.
