Overwatch's Next Hero, Doctrine, Officially Revealed at BlizzCon 2026
This BlizzCon’s Overwatch cinematic focused on Doomfist’s efforts to keep control of Talon after almost being killed. He works with agents like Sombra to free Doctrine, who suits up again and prepares to fight alongside his sect of Talon.
When it comes to the hero shooter gameplay, Doctrine will be a support hero that the developers say has a very high mechanical floor. His attacks can heal allies and damage enemies. Doctrine is playable for Overwatch fans at BlizzCon, but people at home will be able to try out the character at home during a limited-time hero trial starting today. Fittingly, this vampiric hero is arriving just before Halloween.
Season 5 of Overwatch is shaping up to be a substantial one. Not only is it adding a cinematic-worthy new character and giving players the ability to earn rewards from previous battle passes, but it’s also adding a new map and bringing back Dokiwatch. The new map is called Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, an Icelandic prison that players will encounter while playing Escort matches.
Fans of anime and manga will also be happy to see DokiWatch make its grand return during the next season. We'll learn more about this during Overwatch’s BlizzCon panel. While no new Overwatch game was announced at this BlizzCon, it’s still a busy one for the franchise thanks to all the new things Season 5 adds, the Overwatch World Cup, and the Matt Mercer-hosted QuestWatch live play session taking place tomorrow.
Overwatch is free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
