Percy Jackson Author Is Getting Another Disney Plus Fantasy Series

It looks like another Rick Riordan series is coming to Disney Plus. A TV show based on the Kane Chronicles series is currently in development at the streamer. While the show hasn’t been ordered yet, True Blood and The L Word writer and director Angela Robinson will executive produce and write alongside Riordan. Disney Plus previously produced a TV adaptation of Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which Riordan co-wrote. The third season, adapting The Titan's Curse, is slated for Nov. 20, 2026.
Similarly to the Greek-mythology-based Percy Jackson novels, The Kane Chronicles focuses on Egyptian mythology. The series centers on siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, magicians who are descended from the two pharaohs, Narmer and Ramses the Great, as they interact with Egyptian gods and goddesses. The series consists of three books released between 2010 and 2012: The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, and The Serpent’s Shadow. The novels are set in the same universe as Percy Jackson.
What is Kane Chronicles about?
The show’s description reads: “When their father unleashes the god of chaos and vanishes, the estranged Kane siblings must master their inherited Egyptian magic, forge unlikely alliances, and rescue their father before warring gods can wreak havoc on our modern world.”
Riordan will once again work with Percy Jackson and the Olympians' executive producer Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell of the Gotham Group, alongside his creative partner and wife, Rebecca Riordan. The author was previously in talks with Netflix about a film adaptation of The Kane Chronicles before the deal lapsed and Disney scooped it up. Percy Jackson has seemingly done well for Disney, earning critical praise and winning several awards at the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards.
Angela Robinson’s 20th Television will be producing The Kane Chronicles. In addition to working on True Blood and The L Word, Robinson recently directed episodes of Wednesday and wrote How to Get Away With Murder. She has also directed several films, including the 2017 biopic Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. As for Riordan, beyond the Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicles, he is known for several other series in the same continuity: The Heroes of Olympus, The Trials of Apollo, and The Nico di Angelo Adventures. He previously wrote the screenplay for the 2010 film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and its sequel, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
