Perez Hilton’s Family Says He Needs Surgery After Suffering “Significant Blood Loss” on Livestream

Perez Hilton’s loved ones are making sure his children are taken care of.

One week after the celebrity blogger was hospitalized in Miami for engaging in self-harm during a livestream, his mother Teresita Lavandeira has filed for temporary custody of his three children, whose ages range from 8 to 13.

According to Miami court documents obtained by multiple outlets, Hilton (real name Mario Lavandeira Jr.)“voluntarily consented” to the custody request, which will allow his mom to consent to the kids’necessary medical and dental care, grants her access to their medical and educational records and grants her liberty to make education decisions.

Hilton’s sign off in the documents, per Page Six, included acknowledgment that the temporary custody arrangement “is in the best interest of the children.” The court documents also affirm that Hilton “may, at any time, petition the court to return legal custody” to him.

An attorney for Perez told People in a statement, "“My main concern and objective, as well as the family’s, is to protect the children and make sure they are safe. We want them to have some sense of normalcy as they begin their journey of healing after the tragic events that occurred last week."

Lavandeira also submitted an additional filing seeking to seal the case from public view.

“The Respondent in this case is a public figure and the media has been surrounding his home for days on end,” the papers, according to Page six, read. “The children in this case should not be subjected to any further trauma related to the incidents that are the basis for the Petition.”

As for Hilton’s health, the media personality remains hospitalized to receive care, his condition “remains serious but stable,” according to an Aug. 8 update from his family.

“He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days,” the statement shared to his website added. “His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”

Hilton’s family also confirmed that the 48-year-old’s ongoing hospitalization—which occurred after a livestream in which he could be seen engaging in self-harm—is in part due Florida’s Baker Act, a mental health edict which provides crisis services for people suffering from mental illness.

“His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care,” Hilton’s family added. “He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements.”

In addition to once again asking the public and the media to respect the family’s privacy, Hilton’s family also affirmed his kids are being taken care of.

“Perez’s children remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family,” the statement noted. “Please allow them and the rest of the family the peace and privacy they desperately need during this incredibly difficult time.”
