He has worked as both a writer and editor for Screen Rant, Collider, and other media outlets across various departments, including features, news, reviews, and interviews.

After a two-year wait, Prime Video finally brought back one of its most exciting new shows that feels like a cross between Rick and Morty and Scrubs. On the face of it, it may seem as though Rick and Morty and Scrubs have very little in common, but the surprising combination that blends medical comedy with irreverent adult animated humor is a surprisingly effective mix.

Prime Video has recently said goodbye to The Boys, one of its most popular shows of all time, and while they have a handful of popular shows, it doesn't compare to Netflix in terms of the variety of content overall. Despite this, there are some standout projects on Prime Video that subvert expectations and deserve more attention.

With that in mind, the show in question is called The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy. This is a stunning series that first began in 2024, and thanks to incredible reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics awarding it a 94% approval rating, and audiences scoring it with a highly respectable 73%. And after a lengthy wait for season 2, the show returned to Prime Video on May 27 with eight more stellar episodes.

The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy Has An Absolutely Stacked Cast

While many people hesitate to jump on board with animated shows, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy does have the benefit of a ridiculously talented cast of actors voicing the central characters and the supporting roles. From Oscar winner Kieran Culkin to Keke Palmer, Natasha Lyonne, and so many more, the show is packed with familiar voices from iconic actors.

Each of these incredible performers lends their voice to their parts with incredible enthusiasm and vigor, bringing an eclectic set of aliens to life in a way that imbues humor and comedy in equal measure. But more than that, the talented stars take this project just as seriously as anything else in their career, elevating this from a raunchy comedy sci-fi show into something that genuinely explores the depths of emotion.

Without the talent behind the show, it would be a very different experience, but thanks to these actors delivering top-tier performances across the entire series, it all comes together to make one of the more unique projects in the last decade, while also crossing various genres and creating something that is deeply moving and easy to connect with.

The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy Has A Powerful Depiction Of Mental Health

Cast of The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy season 2

For example, thanks to the absurdist approach to a medical drama set in space, the show has a lot of freedom to explore concepts like mental health in a way that is very fresh and new. While people tend to suffer from mental health in silence, and it is often regarded as an invisible illness, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy brings these ailments to life.

One storyline follows an exploration of anxiety, and rather than framing it as a painful underlying illness, it gives it a physical form by depicting it as a parasite that gets temporary relief at times but ultimately becomes more dangerous and damaging as it continues to feed on the host.

The series also sees central characters like Dr. Klak and Dr. Sleech suffer from challenges such as impostor syndrome, trauma, family issues, and so much more. Across both seasons of the show, they continue to examine these various challenges with creativity and nuance in a way that connects to the audience, while also maintaining the sci-fi illusion that makes it feel more comical.

So, if you find yourself craving a series that mirrors the comedy seen in Rick and Morty, while also leaning into more serious explorations of mental health balanced with humor and positive characters similar to those seen in Scrubs, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy is the perfect show to tune into Prime Video for.
