Prime Video's Bloodaxe finally has a premiere date.

With elements that should appeal to Game of Thrones fans, the upcoming Prime Video Original marks a return for Vikings creator Michael Hirst. After the Vikings: Valhalla spinoff ended, and after a three-season run aswriter and creator of the Western drama Billy the Kid, Hirst is officially back in the world of Vikings. But this time, he's giving the spotlight to one particular warrior.

Bloodaxe will premiere all eight episodes of Bloodaxe on January 20, 2027, exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The announcement was accompanied by a trailer (included below) and came as part of a panel and discussion of the upcoming series at this year's New York Comic-Con. As previously announced, Bloodaxe has already been renewed for season 2 and is currently in production in Ireland.

The first installment of Bloodaxe “chronicles the rise of one of history’s most famous Norse raiders”, according to the official press release. It follows Erik Bloodaxe (played by Xavier Molyneux), joined by his wife, the formidable Gunnhild, Mother of Kings (played by Jessica Madsen). The pair battle for the throne of Norway, made harder by the fact that “the land is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals.”

Xavier Molyneux, Jessica Madsen, Karlis Arnolds Avots, Levi Miller, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte, and Jesper Christensen also star in the forthcoming epic, which examines what happens as war looms and consumes the kingdom. This, in turn, brings about the unrelenting rulers of other Scandinavian countries. Even a “powerful English ruler,” all of which sets the stage for a new series that promisesa compelling new chapter in the overall Norse fictionalized sagas.
